A 63-year-old Mexican national illegally residing in Houston has been ordered to federal prison for theft of government funds and aggravated identity theft. Beginning in 1992, the woman used a Social Security number belonging to a U.S. citizen. We released an audit on beneficiaries incorrectly recorded as deceased. The report found that in 2025, 12,504 death records were posted in error. In 45% of cases reviewed, SSA employees did not document why the records were corrected, as required by policy.
