How Should the Board Deal with Emerging Technology? Event by Internet Security Alliance Tue, Aug 18, 2026, 12:00 PM NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) https://lnkd.in/gAhQcK9R
Board members and senior managers are being asked to approve AI, quantum, and autonomous systems before the standards, regulations, or long-term risks are fully understood. That gap between adoption and governance is one of the most consequential issues facing directors today. Emerging technologies have become embedded in cybersecurity operations, financial analysis, HR, audit, and executive decision-making. Microsoft tracks more than 600 million cyberattacks a day. 76% of Fortune 500 companies now identify AI as a risk factor in their disclosures. The same tools reshaping the industry are being used by attackers to write more convincing phishing emails, impersonate executives, and scale social engineering. Join the next LinkedIn Live Session on the 5th Edition of the NACD Director's Handbook on Cyber-Risk Oversight, co-produced by NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) and Internet Security Alliance. Built around Tool C, "Board Discussion Guide on Adapting to Emerging Technologies," this session gives directors a practical framework for the questions they should be asking before AI, quantum computing, and autonomous systems outpace the organization's ability to govern them. Moderated by Larry Clinton, President of the Internet Security Alliance, this session features: → JR Williamson, SVP and Chief Information Security Officer at Leidos and Chairman of the Internet Security Alliance Board. With more than 30 years of experience, he brings a rare vantage point on securing complex, high-stakes enterprises. → Matthew Butkovic, CISSP, CISA, AIAA, Technical Director of the Cyber Risk and Resilience Assurance Directorate at Carnegie Mellon University's SEI CERT Division. A CISSP and CISA-certified researcher with more than 20 years across banking and manufacturing, he brings deep research expertise directly relevant to board-level technology governance. → Kemba Walden, President of the Paladin Global Institute and former Acting US National Cyber Director. As a key architect of the 2023 National Cybersecurity Strategy, with prior roles at Microsoft, DHS, and CISA, she offers a rare view into how policy and enterprise risk intersect at the highest levels in the country. Directors who show up to this conversation now will be the ones setting the standard for governance later; you won't want to miss it.
