  • Higher Education globally is facing shrinking political support, volatile international student flows, and financial fragility. With 45% of UK universities forecasting deficits and the 'Big Four' destinations projected to lose 5% of their global market share by 2030 (QS Global Student Flows 2026), the sector is at a structural precipice. Universities are being challenged to rethink how they deliver value and remain competitive in an increasingly complex global landscape. This was the focus of the panel 'Higher Education's Reckoning: Reform, Consolidate or Perish' at London EdTech Week, where QS CEO Jessica Turner joined fellow sector leaders to explore the future of higher education. One theme stood out: the importance of meaningful collaboration between universities and technology partners. As Jessica noted: "The real opportunity in partnership isn't being tapped yet: helping universities prepare graduates to actually use AI in the jobs they're walking into. Most graduates are woefully unprepared, not because they lack skills, but because no one can yet say what the work requires today, in June 2026, let alone by September." The challenge is urgent. Our recently published report in collaboration with University of York and Public First, 'The Strategic Role of HE to deliver the National Industrial Strategy', revealed that 50% of the UK workforce has moderate to very high exposure to automation, while 75% has significant opportunity to use AI to augment their work. At the same time, more than three-quarters of academics believe universities must incorporate AI into their curricula (QS AI Academic Pulse Survey 2025). Preparing students for an AI-driven economy will require more than technology adoption. It will demand stronger partnerships, greater agility, and a renewed focus on the skills employers really need. Thank you to London EdTech Week for bringing together such an important conversation. • This year’s QS Africa Forum will address the central challenge facing African higher education today: how to meet rising demand while delivering quality, relevance, and long-term impact.  Our 2026 theme, Skills, Systems & Sustainability, holds three imperatives in deliberate tension.  𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 speaks to the urgent need for alignment between what institutions produce and what economies require – from technical competencies to AI fluency and green capabilities.  𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 acknowledges that no single institution can solve this alone; governance, funding, and cross-border collaboration must all be part of the answer.  And 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 insists that growth without responsibility is not progress.  Together, they frame the Forum's core proposition: that transformation in African higher education must be purposeful, connected, and built to last.  Are you joining us in Addis Ababa?  Get your ticket here: https://lnkd.in/e4zzjYkk United Arab Emirates University #QSAfricaForum

  • In higher education, it's easy to focus on the next move. The real challenge is thinking several moves ahead. ♟️ That's why we're delighted to welcome Judit Polgár to QS Higher Ed Summit: Europe 2026. Widely regarded as the strongest female chess player in history, Judit rewrote the rules of the game, becoming the only woman to break into the world's top 10 and defeating eleven world champions, including Kasparov, Anand, and Carlsen. But her impact extends far beyond the chessboard. As a global advocate for chess in education and creator of the Judit Polgár Method, she has spent decades demonstrating how play, strategy, and critical thinking can help develop more creative, resilient, and future-ready minds. In an era where AI is changing the way we learn, work, and make decisions, Judit's fireside chat will explore a question every education leader should be considering: How do we ensure the distinctly human skills that matter most don't end up in check? Join us in Budapest as we explore how universities can nurture the strategic thinking, creativity, and adaptability needed to thrive in an increasingly complex world. ♟️ Check out the agenda and secure your place: https://lnkd.in/eCFXwhtv #QSHigherEdSummit #HigherEducation #AI #Leadership

  • Sunway University has announced a new partnership with QS to strengthen international undergraduate recruitment, building a more connected and data-informed approach to engaging prospective students across key global markets.  The collaboration will support Sunway across the full recruitment journey, from lead generation and enquiry management to applicant support, offer conversion and reporting. It also reflects a broader shift in international recruitment, as institutions look for more joined-up models that connect visibility, market presence and conversion rather than treating them as separate activities.  For Sunway, this means a stronger platform for reaching students in strategic markets and a more consistent experience from first enquiry to enrolment. For the wider sector, it is another sign that sustainable international growth increasingly depends on how well institutions connect brand, service and student decision-making.  👉 Read more about the partnership and what it says about the future of international recruitment: https://lnkd.in/ebtQgaVX #QSInsights #StudentRecruitment
