We’re grateful to Damon Cassidy for featuring our co-founder, Kathy Terry, and General Manager, Miracle Wright, as they share the story behind P. Terry’s recent transition to Employee Ownership and Profit Sharing. As they share in the video, our industry continues to face real challenges. Through it all, we remain committed to investing in our people while staying true to what has always mattered most: serving high-quality, all-natural food at prices families can afford. We believe that when our people succeed, our guests, our communities, and our company succeed alongside them. ❤️ https://lnkd.in/eFHaMVnb

All-natural, affordable food, from our family to yours - it all matters to us.
About us
Kathy and Patrick Terry opened the first P. Terry's on July 5th, 2005 at the corner of South Lamar and Barton Springs. Patrick was following his childhood dream to open a classic burger stand, like the legendary Mack Eplin's he grew up with in Abiliene, Texas. But when Kathy read the book "Fast Food Nation", their plan to provide quality food and service went to a higher level. P. Terry's offers the freshest quality ingredients you can find served out of a drive-thru window. We're where fresh, all-natural, "never-ever" frozen beef and chicken became staple items. We serve fresh-cut fries made from all-natural potatoes, free of trans fats and hydrogenated oils. Add to that our fresh-baked cookies, banana bread, and house veggie burger; our fresh-squeezed orange juice and lemonade; and our authentic milkshakes - we care about what's out there to eat, and we make our food with that in mind. But, we didn't forget Patrick's original image - the classic burger joint of the '50s and '60s, when small-town hospitality was the standard. That's why we offer a simple menu with an open kitchen, with premium quality ingredients served at affordable prices. It's why we treat every customer with the utmost respect; take every chance to give back to our community; and ensure our employees' well-being - through opportunities to grow with our business, access to unique benefits, and pay above industry standards.

We’re back at P. Terry's Burger Stand!!! DSE Media just had the privilege of interviewing Kathy Terry, Co-Founder of P.Terry’s, and another Austin legend. P.Terry’s new initatives around creating more wealth and opportunity for employees is a fantastic lesson: When you take care of people, people take care of you. Declan Shearman and Devon Messinger, thank you for making this possible - it’s an honor to work with you guys :)

Today I’m excited to share something Patrick and I have been working toward for a long time. P. Terry's Burger Stand has created an Employee Ownership Trust – and we’ve launched a profit-sharing program for our entire team! Over 1,800 people have shown up every day and built something remarkable with us. This is our way of making sure the value we’ve created actually flows back to the people who created it. Too often, the people who create the value are the last to share in it. We wanted to do something different. Because this model isn’t built around a future sale, we also wanted our team to feel ownership now – not someday. That’s why the profit-sharing plan matters so much to us. Here’s what I believe: Compassion is not just a value. It’s a strategy. The most resilient, high-performing businesses I know lead with genuine care for their people and the results follow. Not the other way around. We didn’t do this because it was easy. We did it because it was right. And because we kept coming back to one question: What happens to our people and our culture after us? To every business owner reading this – you don’t have to choose between building a great company and building one that truly takes care of people. There is a path to transition ownership in a way that preserves culture and honors the people who helped build it. The Employee Ownership Trust model makes that possible. Grateful beyond words to the team at Common Trust - especial - Zoe Schlag, Sandra Raafat, and Jonathan Parker for helping us navigate this with so much care and integrity. This is just the beginning. #EmployeeOwnership #EOT #CompassionAsStrategy #PeopleFirst #PTerrys #EmployeeOwnershipTrust
We have BIG news to share. Starting today, P. Terry's is becoming employee-owned through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Patrick and Kathy Terry aren't going anywhere. This step helps ensure that the values they've built P. Terry's on, including taking care of people, serving quality food, and supporting our communities, continue for generations to come. We're also excited to introduce a new profit-sharing program for employees with at least two years of tenure. Beginning this year, 5% of operating income will be distributed among eligible employees, with plans to increase that amount to as much as 20% over time. From the beginning, we believed that taking care of people and building a great business weren’t competing ideas. This transition is the most honest expression of that belief we’ve ever made. P. Terry’s has always belonged to the people who show up every day. Now, it’s official. ❤️

We're pretty proud of getting to work on this one...today P. Terry's Burger Stand announces their transition to employee ownership through an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), benefitting 1,800 employees. Over the past two decades Patrick and Kathy Terry have built the original burger stand into a beloved brand with 38 locations across Texas alongside their team, and today they've chosen to protect that legacy, culture and vision for the long term through this transition. Congrats to the entire team, we're thrilled for this next chapter of P. Terry's Burger Stand as employee owned! https://lnkd.in/gHyaPV4N

The Terry's are the definition of what family-values and grit looks like. Kathy & Patrick were kind enough to have lunch with me the other day and share their perspective, on why local ownership matters. 20 years ago they started with 1 burger stand in Austin (original location, photo below) and a handful of Teammates. Now they are 38 locations strong all across Texas, with over 1,000 Teammates. As we were chomping down a classic P Terry's cheeseburger, I learned this: 10 years ago they had an offer to sell their business for enough money, that they could buy their own small country with. But as soon as they received the offer, they both started to wonder who would take care of Vince if his car breaks down again or what would happen to Maggie, Connie or Isabelle? Will the new investors care? No. Not like they have. They'd be walking away from a decade of hard earned trust and relationships they've built, with their Team and their customers. Kathy said that local ownership is something we have to encourage. Anything worth doing in life is done slow and deliberately. She said you'll learn that it's not about the money, it's about the impact. The support and supplies you are able to send down to a Texas town, after a horrific flood, becomes the North Star, not the exit value. Both wished more folks got the chance to experience what their family has- The warm embrace of making a difference in People's lives. That only happens if you can control the good you do. If there's someone else pulling the strings.... All that goes away. Finally, the Terry's shared a story from the beginning, where they were closing up late, at their first burger stand , headed home, when they both realized they needed to get the kitchen clean before the next morning. Kathy went to a 24 hour store for cleaning supplies and Patrick opened the stand back up. Kathy then looked over to him and said "Well, we're not going to be able to do this by ourselves." That lined is burned in both of their souls and you can tell it still moves them deeply. They understood that from that point on, this was going to be built on the hard work of others... Not just them. Watching them walk through the burger stand, you can tell that they are not only respected, but beloved by their folks. There's a fierce loyalty you see from both sides. That's the sign and responsibility of true ownership. Makes you only want to eat at a P. Terry's Burger Stand. Thanks Terrys. Your example matters. #LocallyOwned #FamilyValues #SlowGrowth #StrongFoundations

What’s it like to help scale a regional favorite into a growing brand? After a year and a half at P. Terry's Burger Stand, I figured it was finally time for a (long-overdue!!) first LinkedIn update. During that time, I’ve managed marketing for the brand alongside Devan Nguyen, focused on expanding into new markets, evolving the company’s identity, and strengthening guest connections. That work translated into strong results this past year, including a 740%+ increase in social impressions, engagements, and followers, while contributing to 15%+ YoY sales growth. The impact has extended beyond the numbers, with guest support both in person and online, and recognition as a 2025 highlight from the Austin American-Statesman and Austin Monthly Magazine. It’s been especially meaningful to apply my experience across agency and brand-side environments to work that drives real-world results. I’m grateful for the leadership of Patrick Terry, Matthew Montgomery, and Zane Donahoo, along with everyone who has offered support and guidance along the way. As we move through 2026, I’m excited to build on this momentum, with several key brand moments already helping keep P. Terry’s in the spotlight.
