Volunteerism is more than an act of service. It is a way to build connection, strengthen communities and live for something bigger than ourselves. Through the Dallas Good Neighbor Guide, #DailyPointofLight Award honoree and Corporate Service Council Member Sarah Steinmann is turning everyday acts of care into a movement for stronger, more connected communities. With more than 50 accessible ways to take action, she is showing Dallas residents that meaningful service can fit into anyone’s life. “I think we’re at our best when we’re living for things that are bigger than us. In an age and time when there’s a lot of loneliness and isolation, volunteering and serving others can really put you in a position to be in community and be connected to other people.” Sarah’s story is a reminder that making a difference does not have to start with something big. It starts with showing up. Read more about her story and nominate a volunteer for a Daily Point of Light award today! https://lnkd.in/eGQdzrrt

A commitment to service is one of America's ensuring strengths. In a new op-ed for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, our board member Eric Tanenblatt reflects on the power of volunteering and how it can keep shaping our culture into the future. He reminds us that ordinary people have strengthened our communities and culture through service and civic engagement. As Points of Light looks to the future, we're leading a movement to double volunteering in the U.S. by 2035. We're creating pathways to make it easier for everyone to engage. Investing in service today will help build a more connected, resilient country and society for years to come. Thank you, Eric, for your leadership and sharing this inspiring opinion. Purpose grows when companies empower employees to lead. #DailyPointofLight Award honoree Mike Turian is doing just that at Hasbro a 2026 #TheCivic50 honoree, by turning a passion for gaming into life changing support for children and families. More than a decade ago, Mike stepped in to lead Wizards of the Coast's Extra Life fundraising efforts to ensure support for Seattle Children's continued. Under his leadership, the initiative has grown from raising $47,000 annually to more than $650,000 each year, contributing to over $10 million raised overall. His leadership through Extra Life led to an invitation to join the Safe Crossings Foundation board in 2019. Today, as Board President, he helps advance the organization's mission to ensure children grieving the loss of a loved one have access to the support they need. Mike shares, "Grief in our society is something that’s not really talked about or embraced. There’s more of a “move on” mentality. So Safe Crossings is there to recognize this need, and hopefully have a lasting impact." Mike believes meaningful change starts with individual action. He encourages others to follow their passions, take the first step and remember that even small efforts can grow into lasting impact. As he puts it, "You are important, and your actions do matter." This year, we're bringing forward two conversations to SXSW that explore a common question: How can we build a more connected, resilient future? Community voting for SXSW PanelPicker is now open, August 5th-23rd. One session led by CEO Jennifer Sirangelo explores why volunteering is essential civic infrastructure that can help address loneliness, rebuild trust, and foster a stronger sense of belonging. The other, led by Chief Program and Impact Officer Vanessa Diamond, looks at how companies can strengthen both workplace and community culture through volunteerism and corporate philanthropy. 🗳️ Vote for our sessions: • Company Culture Starts in the Community: https://lnkd.in/eY4yWEaX • Rebuilding America Through Volunteerism: https://lnkd.in/eCh26rCr #VolunteeringChangesEverything
