Physicians are leaving clinical practice roughly nine years earlier than a generation ago. A national survey published in The Permanente Journal, drawn from nearly 1,000 clinically inactive doctors who completed residency between 2000 and 2022, found the mean age at departure is now 48.1, down from 57.1 in a comparable 2008 cohort. It's the clearest look in more than a decade at why doctors are stepping away early, and what may be driving the next wave of burnout. China's rise in biotech isn't a surprise. It was a deliberate, decades-long strategy. John Stanford, Executive Director at Incubate, argues that the surge in Chinese biotech licensing is the direct result of sustained investment modeled on the same Bayh-Dole Act and NIH funding framework that gave the U.S. four decades of biomedical leadership. China followed that playbook consistently, and the results are now visible in $43 billion in licensing deals in the first five months of 2026 alone. Stanford makes the case that the U.S. response shouldn't be to restrict those deals, but to remove the barriers slowing domestic biotech investment down. New feature on Inizio Engage's end-to-end patient support model, presented by Jason Rains (SVP, Patient Access) and Randy Quist (VP, Field Reimbursement). Built on 25 years of nurse clinical education experience, the approach uses a non-dispensing pharmacy to streamline the front end of treatment, with smart automation guiding patients through benefits investigation and prior authorization. Chinese biotech isn't just catching up. It's competing on innovation. $43 billion in licensing agreements with Chinese companies was announced in just the first five months of 2026. John Stanford, Executive Director at Incubate, explains why: two decades of deliberate investment, modeled on the same Bayh-Dole and NIH playbook that gave the U.S. four decades of biomedical leadership, is now paying off. And the U.S. government is taking notice, with a bipartisan push to add biotech to the Treasury's outbound investment screening list. Project TrialBlazer aims to cut clinical trial timelines by six to twelve months. But is it solving the right problem? Dr. Richard Graham, chairman and co-founder of TruTechnologies, says the initiative is directionally correct but argues that the companies he works with are already defaulting to Australia for Phase 1 studies, where the equivalent of no IND is required at all. Once that behavior sets in, regulatory reform alone may not be enough to reverse it.
