The United States Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital announced a $400 million conditional loan commitment with Sunrise Energy Metals Limited to expand the company’s scandium mining and processing operations. This financing will build out a complete, U.S.-aligned value chain from mine to finished metal, securing a vital supply of scandium for the defense and commercial industrial base while breaking reliance on foreign-dominated sources. The United States Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital announced a $1.4 billion conditional loan commitment with Sila Nanotechnologies, Inc. to expand the domestic production of advanced battery materials. This financing will support the expanded production of silicon-carbon battery anodes and the buildout of a domestic lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing facility. Ultimately, this loan commitment will strengthen supply chains for vital U.S. markets including energy storage, AI, and defense, while reducing reliance on foreign sources for critical battery components. Through partnership with industry, the United States Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital is helping shore up domestic supply chains for critical minerals, expand the U.S. industrial base, and support the warfighter with the materials built into technologies that enable DOMINANCE across all domains of warfare.

The United States Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital announced a $150 million conditional loan commitment with Niron Magnetics, Inc. to scale the company’s domestic production of rare earth-free magnets. Niron circumvents the concentrated and vulnerable rare earth supply chain by synthesizing magnets from domestically abundant commodity inputs, specifically iron and nitrogen. This financing will support the construction of a new manufacturing plant in Minnesota capable of producing up to 1,500 tons of rare earth-free magnets annually. This commitment helps build a secure domestic supply chain and eliminate reliance on foreign sources for magnets.
