Last month, we had the pleasure of joining an incredible celebration of Japanese craft, culture, and travel at JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles. Hosted by the Toyama Prefecture and H.I.S., the wagashi workshop offered a rare look at the extraordinary artistry and care that goes into these traditional Japanese sweets, led by the incredibly talented Chef Hikiami. It was one of those experiences that reminds you how much you can learn about a place through its food: the ingredients, techniques, traditions, and people who keep them alive. Lonely Planet was thrilled to join the event and celebrate Toyama, while helping guests imagine their own journeys to Japan with our Japan travel guide. But there was another reason the evening felt especially meaningful: Chef Hikiami is also featured in our upcoming book, 'Love Japan', arriving next month. 🇯🇵 'Love Japan' celebrates the people, places, traditions, flavors, and experiences that make the country so special and getting to experience Chef Hikiami’s craft firsthand was a beautiful preview of exactly what the book is about. A huge thank you to Japan House Los Angeles, Toyama, Chef Hikiami, and everyone who joined us for such a memorable evening. I can’t wait to share more of 'Love Japan' soon. ❤️
