  • "Lila is the most ambitious thing I've ever been part of." Our COO and CFO, Jawad Ahsan, sat down with MIT Sloan to talk about the path that led him here: from GE to Axon, where he helped scale the company from roughly $1B to more than $13B in market cap, to founding 10mK, and now to Lila. What drew him to Lila was the intersection of a genuinely mission-driven company and a real moment of transformation building scientific superintelligence at the earliest possible stage, where frontier AI paired with autonomous labs doesn't just analyze data that already exists, but designs and runs experiments to make new discoveries. Jawad is hiring across finance and operations, alongside open roles on teams throughout Lila. We'd love to hear from you: https://lnkd.in/gfghRg3h

  • LILA has been selected to join the U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission - a national effort to mobilize AI, supercomputing, and the DOE's 17 National Laboratories to double the pace of American scientific discovery. We're proud to share that three of LILA's proposals, each submitted in partnership with a national laboratory or leading research university, were selected for Phase I awards under Genesis Mission's Lighthouse Challenges: → AI-Enabled Electrochemical Refinery with Caltech and Berkeley Lab (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) → Agentic AI-Driven Manufacturing of Polyethylene from Waste Carbon with Northwestern University and Argonne National Laboratory → Autonomous Identification of Semiconductor Charge Transport Physics with the National Laboratory of the Rockies. We built our AI Science Factories to run the full scientific method autonomously - increasing the speed at which ideas can be tested against reality. Genesis Mission is a bet that AI can compress the cycle at national scale, and we're grateful for the chance to pair our platform with the instruments, data, and expertise inside America's National Labs. Thank you to our partners at Caltech, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Northwestern University, Argonne National Laboratory, and the National Laboratory of the Rockies. This is just the beginning — we'll spend the next several months developing these concepts, with the opportunity to apply for larger Phase II awards to build and deploy. More to come. #GenesisMission #AI #DOE #NationalLabs #ScientificDiscovery https://lnkd.in/gY2a7Bec

  • The internet was AI's fossil fuel. We fracked it, and it's running out. So where does the next internet-scale dataset come from? Our answer: science itself. On the new Latent Space | AI Engineering News, Essays and Interviews podcast, our CTO Andrew Beam and Co-founder & CSO of Physical Sciences Rafael Gómez Bombarelli lay out LILA's thesis - Running the scientific method, with nature and experiments as the verifier, is the ultimate engine for training frontier reasoning models. The conversation covers our AI Science Factories - scaled verifiers that let us do post-training on reality. You know a Latent Space conversion will be good when the hosts Brandon Anderson and RJ Honicky sit down and say “Let’s go full nerd! ”👇 [episode link in comments]

John Kim spent over 30 years as an institutional fundraiser and investor relations pioneer before joining Lila as our Chairman and President of Corporate Development. In this episode of Invest Like The Best, he sits down with Patrick O'Shaughnessy to talk through the three laws of fundraising - straight from his best-selling book, The Tao of Fundraising.

Someone once asked me the secret to raising billions. The real answer is humbling: you're only ever as great as the people you represent. I got to explore this with Patrick O'Shaughnessy on Invest Like The Best. The best fundraiser isn't a salesman - they're a Secretary of State. Someone who can walk into a room you're not in and have people say, "I know you speak for the President." That takes more than understanding the mechanics of a deal. It takes understanding what your candidate actually wants, and carrying it faithfully. For those of us who've done this work for a long time, the real dividend was never the money we helped attract. It's that you spend your whole career trying to get to the other side of trust - and if you do it authentically, what you're really building is friendship. It can't be any other way. Thank you, Patrick, for a conversation full of exactly that kind of curiosity. Link in the comments 👇

Experimentation is critical to scientific discovery, but moving from hypothesis to insight often takes years. I recently visited Lila Sciences, where AI and robotics are being used in the lab to speed up that process—by generating hypotheses, running experiments, learning from results, and deciding what to test next in real time. In short: These technologies are help scientists explore more ideas, more quickly.

  • The question isn't whether AI will transform science. It's "How fast we can move?" For decades, AI in science has worked in isolation: protein folding over here, molecular generation over there. But at Lila Sciences, we're building something different. We train reasoning models across the entire spectrum of science - from life sciences to chemistry to materials. It's about creating agents that think the way scientists do: propose hypotheses, design experiments, iterate on results, and discover breakthrough molecules in real time. When you empower an agent with reasoning, real-world experimentation, and domain-specific tools like NVIDIA's BioNeMo, what once took a team weeks to design and test happens in hours. The next era of discovery belongs to agents grounded in real-world feedback. • We have been named to Fast Company's 2026 World Changing Ideas list. The world's most pressing challenges won't be solved by incremental progress alone. They require a step change in how discovery happens. That's why we're building scientific superintelligence to dramatically expand humanity's capacity to invent, discover, and solve. We believe the future of science will be faster and more ambitious, unlocking breakthroughs in human health, climate resilience, and materials science that can shape a better future. We're grateful to Fast Company for the recognition and to the team making this future possible every day. Congratulations to all of the featured winners: https://lnkd.in/ekuxMeX9 #FCWorldChangingIdeas

  • Meet our Co-Founder and CTO Andrew Beam at Anyscale's Ray Summit. He's speaking... and #hiring - Check out our open roles. https://lnkd.in/geF9V55R

Science is becoming one of the most exciting frontiers for AI. At Lila, we train frontier reasoning models for science and couple them to AI Science Facilities: autonomous labs that run experiments and feed novel data back into training. The model proposes hypotheses, robotic labs test them, and the outcomes become the reward signal. Making that loop work raises a distinct set of technical challenges. Large-scale MoE training where expert-parallel communication patterns dominate. Asynchronous RL where experience arrives from both inference clusters and physical instruments, with latencies ranging from milliseconds to days. Orchestration that has to treat GPUs, lab robotics, and scientific simulation as parts of one system rather than separate stacks. That's why I'm excited to be speaking at Ray Summit 2026. These problems sit at the intersection of distributed systems and frontier AI, which is exactly the conversation Ray Summit exists for. Looking forward to sharing what we're learning. • Revealed on stage at Fortune BrainstormTech: Agents just discovered catalysts that human experts said shouldn't exist - until they actually worked. ·      LILA’s CEO Geoffrey von Maltzahn adds, "We are now seeing this acceleration of science across designing antibodies, designing mRNAs and small molecules.” ·      NVIDIA Healthcare's Kimberly Powell says, "The scientific method is entering a new paradigm right now as we speak. We need to empower every scientist to have this tool and have it in abundance. It’s not only about these agents being able to read biology or science. It’s actually - can it do science?" This is what scientific superintelligence looks like. Real discoveries happening now.
