  • AI just engineered 16 functional viral genomes from scratch, built to kill drug-resistant bacteria. Crafted by researchers at Stanford and the Arc Institute, the genomes are engineered to target E.coli, including strains that have always been resistant to the natural phage. The faster AI crafts biological design, the more manufacturing and clinical validation become the real bottleneck to patient delivery.   • There’s a category-defining solution in cybersecurity. Joe Diamond, CEO of Axonius, explores asset intelligence and how it goes beyond inventory visibility, focusing on how assets interact within an organization’s ecosystem.     Most security tools will tell you something's wrong. Almost none will tell you what to do about it.  I sat down recently with Claire Zau at Lightspeed for their Lightwork podcast and walked through how we’re changing that at Axonius.  We’re doing it in two ways.  As announced in July, you can now ask our Axonius AI Agent a question in plain English (“show me every Windows endpoint with a high severity vulnerability exposed to the internet”) and get back a recommended action.  Pair that with the Axonius MCP Server, which lets you take the frontier models you’ve already deployed and cross-reference them against asset context data you can’t get anywhere else.  As a result, you’ve got something genuinely useful: verified truth, in plain English, with actionable next steps.  Sharing a snippet of my conversation with Claire.     When you’re remediating an exposure, speed comes down to how fast you can connect the dots across your security and IT tools in your environment. On the Lightwork podcast with Lightspeed, our CEO Joe Diamond spoke with Claire Zau about our newest AI security capabilities for the Axonius Asset Cloud. Joe breaks that down how the Axonius MCP Server lets security and IT teams leverage the frontier models they’ve already deployed with asset context data from Axonius. A signal from an EDR tool can be cross-referenced against real-time asset context data to trace an issue back to its source.     For years, healthcare AI has meant administrative tools for doctors and hospitals. Now, the race is on for an even bigger prize: The moment patients first turn toward care. The companies out front are doing two things right now. First, they’re proactively working with regulators, building safety systems as fast as they build capabilities. Second, they’re owning the front door. Two Lightspeed companies are great examples of this: Doctronic is the front door when illness arrives. It interviews you like a physician, works out the likely causes, and writes it all up in a note any doctor can pick up and act on. At any hour, completely free, with nearly 30 million consults to date. This year in Utah, it became the first US company allowed to renew certain prescriptions autonomously. Neko Health is the front door before illness arrives. You walk into a Neko clinic and get scanned to create a baseline record of your health, forming the basis for personalized and preventative care. Eight clinics are live, and the first US location is coming to New York. In both cases the patient is the buyer: choosing, paying directly, and coming back because the experience was great. As a physician, I’ve seen how much of a patient’s health is determined by when and where they first ask for help. Own that moment, and you have the opportunity to shape everything downstream, from the patient's health outcomes to where their data and trust end up living.     For 1,800 years, human life barely changed. Then the last 200 years increased total world output more than 100x. I believe the most dangerous assumption in technology today is that your idea is still too early. Twenty years ago, it cost $54,000 to put one kilogram into space. Today it costs $900, with another 10x decline likely in the next four to five years. That is why the vast majority of everything humanity has ever sent to space went up in the last decade alone. The same is true in energy: solar went from $100 per watt in the 1970s to $0.20 today - and the world deployed more solar last year than all of civilization had before 2018. And then AI - it’s on the steepest curve of all: the cost of a million tokens for the same model declined 1000x between 2023 and 2026. These curves compound on each other. Cheaper energy powers cheaper compute; cheaper compute accelerates everything downstream of it. Your idea is likely only "too early" because something it depends on is still too expensive. I joined Claire Zau on Lightspeed's show Lightwork this week to walk through the full thesis: why human life barely changed for 1,800 years and then world output grew 100x in 200, why every new frontier arrives faster than the last, and the three types of founders who can actually build through them.     Everyone I know says the same thing about AI: it’s impossible to keep up. I always assumed that was just a feeling. Turns out you can measure it. Every week on Lightwork, we struggle to cut the AI news down to three stories. This week, I finally understood why there’s so much of it. The internet took roughly five years to reach its first 16 million people. AI reached a billion people in roughly the same window. We sat down with Lightspeed’s Raviraj Jain this week, and he pulled up a chart spanning 2,000 years of world economic output. For most of it, the line barely moves. Then the steam engine arrives. Electricity follows. Then cars. Computing. The internet. AI. Each revolution arrives faster than the one before it. Raviraj’s explanation was simple: every technological revolution gets to build on top of the last one. Without electricity, you don’t get computing. Without computing, you don’t get the internet. Without all of it, you don’t get AI. But the part that really stuck with me is that each wave doesn’t just inherit the technology. It inherits the distribution and infrastructure, too. The internet had to wait for people to buy computers and get connected. AI showed up on devices billions of people already had in their pockets. That’s why this moment feels so fast. It actually is.
