  • Innovation starts with listening. In a recent interview with DPReview, Leica Camera AG's Gerrit Gissel, Product Manager for the SL System, shares the philosophy behind the new Leica SL3-P and what sets it apart in today's competitive camera market. From intuitive operation and uncompromising image quality to purposeful innovation, Gerrit discusses how the SL System serves as Leica's "technology lighthouse"—advancing new technologies that shape the future of the Leica portfolio while remaining true to the brand's heritage. "The way you create and the result in the end... neither thing is particularly visible when looking at a technical data sheet." It's an insightful conversation about the balance between innovation, craftsmanship, and designing with photographers at the center of every decision. • Leica’s watchmaking journey took center stage on Hodinkee’s The Business of Watches podcast, where Henrik Ekdahl, Managing Director of Ernst Leitz Werkstätten GmbH, shared the vision behind Leica Watches and the brand’s growing presence in the luxury watch market.   The conversation explored Leica’s unique connection to watchmaking, dating back to founder Ernst Leitz’s early studies in watchmaking, and how that heritage continues to influence the brand today.   Henrik discussed Leica’s current watch collection, including the ZM 11 and ZM 12, the craftsmanship behind production, and the strategic growth plans for the category. With fewer than 5,000 watches produced annually and distributed exclusively through Leica Stores and Leica Online, Leica Watches remains focused on quality, innovation, and a distinctly Leica approach to mechanical design.   A great conversation highlighting how Leica’s legacy of precision engineering extends beyond photography and into the world of fine watchmaking.   Listen to the full episode from Hodinkee’s The Business of Watches podcast to learn more about Leica’s vision for the future of watchmaking: https://lnkd.in/gkYybzRP

  • What does it take for a brand to remain one of the most respected names in photography for more than a century? In the latest episode of The Candid Frame, Leica Camera USA President Mike Giannattasio shares insights into the history, philosophy, and values that continue to define Leica. Rather than focusing on the latest camera releases, the conversation explores Leica's enduring commitment to craftsmanship, design, and a way of seeing that has inspired generations of photographers. Mike also discusses the evolving role of Leica Galleries as creative hubs that bring photographers together through exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and community events. The conversation comes at a meaningful time as Leica celebrates the 50th anniversary of Leica Galleries worldwide, reinforcing the company's longstanding commitment to supporting photography not only through its products, but through spaces dedicated to artistic exchange and visual storytelling. Whether you're a lifelong Leica enthusiast or simply passionate about photography, this is a thoughtful conversation about creativity, community, and the future of the photographic medium. • We are pleased to see Leica Galleries and our 50-year journey featured in Forbes, in a piece exploring the renewed interest in film photography and the enduring role of the camera as an artistic tool. The article includes an interview with Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Art Director and Chief Representative of Leica Galleries, whose perspective reflects the vision behind a global network dedicated to photographic culture. At the heart of the feature is a question that has guided us for decades: What role does a gallery play in shaping how a photograph is experienced? • Thursday June 25th marked a milestone moment for our team at Leica Camera USA. We introduced a new live product launch format to unveil the Leica SL3-P, bringing our community closer than ever to the moment of reveal. Ahead of the public announcement, we welcomed press, creators, key opinion leaders, and the Leica community to the Aman Jazz Club for an exclusive, embargoed first look. Bringing media, industry voices, and photographers together to experience the SL3-P before its official debut made this event especially meaningful. The morning featured a keynote from Mike Giannattasio, President of Leica Camera USA, followed by a presentation from Melissa Field and a panel discussion with Melissa and photographer Mark Mann, moderated by Brandon Ruffin. Together, they explored the capabilities of the SL3-P and the creative vision behind it. Guests then had the opportunity to get hands-on with the SL3-P in a jazz club setting—blending a photographic experience with an intimate, vibrant atmosphere. This livestream launch signals a new chapter, merging the intimacy of an in-person preview with the reach of a live digital experience, and creating new ways to connect with our global community. For image creators who expect more confidence in their results and greater flexibility throughout their workflow, the Leica SL3-P is a strong choice for anyone looking to rethink photography and video at the highest level. • From one generation to the next, creativity becomes more than something we practice it becomes something we pass on. Today that legacy continues from mother Mandy walker to daughter Ruby Bell. “My life has been immortalized in photographs, captured by my cinematographer mother, from the moment I was born. Naturally, I became a nostalgic human being and consciously sought to conserve my personal universe in pictures. Not a single momentous occasion is absent from our family archive and fortunately her artistic eye made the happy memories into cinematic recollections. We have preserved our family reminiscences ad infinitum to remember a grandfather’s laugh, a dog’s short legs, and the joy of watching family friends grow up alongside us. People change, the haircuts evolve, the time will pass anyway, so capture it while you can.” - Ruby Bell Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers and mother figures who inspire us today and always.
