"What makes a product feel expensive?" That's one of the question we get asked most. It's almost never the price. In fact, your hands decide way before your brain does. Weight, material transitions, the sound something makes. These are just a few details that all contribute to a premium feel. What's a product you own that feels expensive? #industrialdesign #productdesign #designthinking #designpov #design

Mirror needed connected strength equipment that could perform during a workout while remaining visually consistent with the calm, minimal environment created by its flagship product. That brief shows up in every decision. A diamond-cut textured handle for grip. A square weight plate that gives you support and stability during floor routines. A rubber edge along each weight to add durability and protect the floor underneath. And the detail we beam about (pun intended): the LED lights up when the dumbbells are in motion, so you know they're connected—then turns off when you're done, leaving a matte white number that sits quietly in the room. Nine sets of dumbbells and two sets of ankle weights, designed with lululemon's Mirror team in 2022. Industrial design and design for manufacture by Leadoff Studio. #industrialdesign #productdesign #lululemon #fitnessdesign

Congrats to Matteo Franceschetti and the entire Eight Sleep team on a great conversation with Fitt Insider. One thing that's always stood out about Eight Sleep is they've never positioned themselves as simply selling a mattress. They're building a world where AI, hardware, software, and data come together to improve one of the most important pillars of health: sleep. Hearing Matteo talk about the evolution from sleep-tracking to real-life application was a nice reminder that the most impactful products are not born from data alone, but by using that data to empower people and make their lives better. We partnered with Eight Sleep on bringing part of that vision to life through a physical brand experience and it's been exciting to watch that vision continue to grow along with the organization itself. Congrats again to Matteo and the entire Eight Sleep team, and kudos to the Fitt Insider team for a thoughtful conversation. If you haven't listened yet, it's well worth your time: https://lnkd.in/gqWdqN8t

We often make these visits to gather inspiration for our work and gain perspective out on the field. Our first field trip was to Poster House. Current exhibitions include Act Black: Posters from Black American Stage and Screen, and Love and Fury: New York’s Fight Against AIDS. Graphic design nerds and history buffs alike will thoroughly enjoy Poster House!

10 years of refining and reimagining design. This year, Leadoff Studio celebrates a decade of design. From our early days Uptown in Harlem —a tiny but mighty office and team--to our current home in Long Island City, where our team continues to grow and push creative boundaries. Here are some behind the scenes photos and process images from some of our favorite projects for lululemon, Babsy, and Wolf-Gordon. All of these moments are a reminder that great work isn’t always glamorous. It’s long nights, seemingly-endless sketching, setbacks, breakthroughs, and everything in between. But one thing remains consistent amidst it all: a relentless commitment to craft. We’re grateful to every client, collaborator, and team member who has been a part of the journey. The past 10 years have been pivotal and inspirational, to say the least. Here’s to the next 10!
