Much has changed in the last two decades, and data indicates the city's economy has improved. But what has YOUR experience been? Is your family better off? KVPR - Valley Public Radio reposted this
Last night at KVPR - Valley Public Radio we got to connect and celebrate our Kern County listeners and supporters in an event at the historic Nile Theater in downtown Bakersfield (fresh off the Foo Fighters pop up show there a few nights ago). We got to see a lot of familiar faces and many new ones as well. Our message: KVPR may have been defunded, but we are NOT defeated, and we're not going anywhere!

Today marks the first anniversary and 249th episode of the Central Valley Daily podcast, through KVPR - Valley Public Radio and the Central Valley Journalism Collaborative. From bird flu, the 2024 election, Trump’s water release in Tulare County, a visit to the newspaper run by incarcerated individuals at a Chowchilla prison, conversation with Valley native and NPR White House correspondent Tamera Keith, interview with Bernie Sanders during his visit to Bakersfield, a visit to a Fresno Harley Davidson dealership giving free motercyle lessons, interview with California High Speed Rail Authority CEO Ian Choudri, the local impact of immigration actions, and even a conversation with Dolores Huerta – we’ve covered a lot this past year. I’m so proud to help produce this podcast, proud to be part of this team, proud of what we’ve accomplished, and looking forward to what’s to come.

A look back at KVPR's Escape From Mammoth Pool podcast, on the five year anniversary of the Creek Fire, and the daring nighttime helicopter rescue of hundreds from a remote Sierra lake.
Five years ago, a small fire in California's Central Sierra exploded into a disaster that became one of the largest in the state's history: The Creek Fire. KVPR's podcast "Escape From Mammoth Pool" tells the story of an unprecedented, nighttime aerial rescue from a remote mountain lake amid the height of the firefight. Listen for the true story of how aviators from the California Army National Guard saved 242 lives amid a fire that changed the region forever: https://lnkd.in/d-6WrnRM
