Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital’s emergency department was designed for 25,000 patient visits per year. Currently it serves 125,000 per year, many triaged in tents in the parking lot. Today Kaiser Permanente announced a $25 million commitment to support MLK Community Healthcare's emergency department and sustain its high quality of care in one of Los Angeles’ highest-need communities. The private, nonprofit hospital in South Los Angeles opened in 2015 and maintains 4- to 5-star quality ratings from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Our commitment will support construction that will meet the community’s growing demand for health care services. We will also buy and lend a $7 million, temporary modular emergency care facility to maintain patient access during construction. https://k-p.li/4cxMe2B

Setting a curfew helps balance the independence a teen wants with the boundaries they need. “Help your child understand that this boundary is grounded in ensuring their safety, health, and development and not due to any lack of trust,” says Asha Patton-Smith, PsyD, child and adolescent psychiatrist at Kaiser Permanente in Virginia. Kaiser Permanente reposted this
This week at the #NALEOLA annual conference, I joined colleagues for an important conversation about ensuring every family can access and afford the care they need. We discussed the need to move beyond a “sick-care” system by investing in value-based care, supporting the whole person, and strengthening the partnerships that help communities stay healthy. Improving health and access depends on whether people feel heard and trust the information they receive. That requires listening, communicating honestly, and working with trusted community partners from the start. Thank you to my fellow panelists Anthony Wright of Families USA and Lizette Escobedo of AltaMed, and to Monterey County Supervisor and NALEO Board Member Christopher Lopez for moderating this important discussion.
