In nearly two out of five fatal overdose cases, someone was close enough to help, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Chances are they either didn’t have naloxone or didn't know what was happening. Free naloxone and fentanyl test strips are now available 24/7 from an outdoor opioid rescue kit at Indiana Center for Recovery in Terre Haute. No name, no ID, no questions. The box came from our partners at Overdose Lifeline. 🙏 Thank you to WTHI-TV News 10 for coming out to see it, and to our partners at Overdose Lifeline for providing the box. 🙏 You do not have to be the person at risk to be the person who needs it. Burnout among nurse practitioners and physician assistants is not just a smaller version of physician burnout. It has its own drivers, and it deserves its own solutions. Grateful to our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Kane, MD, for lending his voice to this important conversation about supporting one of healthcare's fastest-growing clinical workforces.
Not all burnout looks the same, and not all of it responds to the same solutions. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants often carry heavy patient loads while working within scope-of-practice limits, supervision requirements, and role ambiguity that physicians do not face in the same way. When their burnout gets treated as a smaller version of physician burnout, the actual drivers get missed. At Indiana Center for Recovery, our advanced practice clinicians are essential to the care we provide, and their working conditions matter as much as anyone else's. I was glad to contribute to this Medscape article by Julie Peck on how advanced practice providers’ burnout has evolved since the pandemic, and what organizations can do to address it beyond individual wellness programs. https://lnkd.in/eWSna6j4

Too many Hoosiers still face real barriers to accessing it: stigma, cost, confusion about where to start, and the mistaken belief that things have to get worse before help is deserved. In a new op-ed published in Inside Indiana Business, our Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael Kane, MD, addresses why that gap continues to exist and what it will take to close it. This article is behind a paywall, but the key takeaway is that narrowing the gap means normalizing early intervention, reducing stigma, and making clear entry points into care, including affordability and insurance, a priority. Indiana Center for Recovery is committed to making care more accessible with Medicaid accepted at select locations because everyone deserves a chance at life-saving treatment. Thank you to Inside INdiana Business for publishing this important piece and to Dr. Kane for his continued leadership on behalf of Hoosier families. Nearly one in four adults in Indiana is living with a mental illness. And among those adults, one in four says they are not getting the treatment they need or believe they need. Dr. Michael Kane, Chief Medical Officer at Indiana Center for Recovery, was recently featured in Healthcare Business Today to help bring attention to this gap in mental health care across Indiana. Too many Hoosiers are trying to keep daily life moving while carrying anxiety, depression, trauma, or emotional distress. For many, the barrier is not whether treatment can help. It is stigma, cost, confusion about where to start, or the belief that things have to get worse before support is “deserved.” At Indiana Center for Recovery, mental health treatment is built around meeting people sooner, with compassion, clarity, and care that helps reduce barriers to getting started. 🔗 Read Dr. Kane’s full Healthcare Business Today feature at the link in comments. https://lnkd.in/dKyxz9NR #IndianaCenterForRecovery #MentalHealthMatters #HoosierHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #AddictionRecovery #BreakTheStigma #IndianaMentalHealth #HealthcareLeadership #DrMichaelKane

Despite growing awareness and changing conversations around addiction, opioid-related deaths in Monroe County remain alarmingly high. From January to September last year, 787 Hoosiers lost their lives to opioids. In Monroe County alone, nearly 60% of all drug-related deaths in 2025 were opioid-related, and one of the biggest barriers to getting help remains stigma. Our Director of Clinical Development Jackie Daniels recently spoke with Indiana Daily Student about how shame and the "us versus them" mindset push people away from the care they need.
