Ashley Morton, Carly Hare, and Sara Bigelow recently attended the Colorado Health Symposium, hosted by the The Colorado Health Foundation, a gathering built around this year’s theme: Wisdom & Wonder. It was a powerful few days of learning the important of reflections on the past and applying it forward, hearing the stories behind the work and raising them up to take them further. One of the biggest takeaways: even when people organize with different instincts, we’re so often working from shared values along different paths. The blend of inspiration from the plenaries and motivation from the workshops left us with a toolkit of practical ideas to bring back to our own work, plus plenty of moments of humor, joy, and connection along the way. Priya Parker, author of The Art of Gathering, spoke at our closing plenary for one last powerful moment of connection and collaboration to close out a great gathering. We are grateful for the chance to learn alongside so many committed partners in this field.

This week, Sara Bigelow, Megan Fiore, and Jon Aliri shared with the Building Operations in Philanthropy group about our Confluence Center space. We’re grateful for the chance to talk about how we’ve invited the nonprofit community into this space, and how it’s become a hub for connection and creativity in Missoula. We talked about the ripple affect of the space, from grantee partners hosting meetings and trainings, to community-facing events like Torrents First Friday art shows and Día de los Muertos, to broader efforts that bring energy to the surrounding neighborhood. It’s been rewarding to see how a single space can support everything from grant-funded programs to grassroots community building. We’re proud of what this space has made possible, and excited for what’s ahead as we continue finding new ways to open our doors to the nonprofits and community members who make this work meaningful.
