This summer, we celebrated the graduation of our 15th cohort of FoodCorps members! 🎉 Over the past school year, 50 FoodCorps members partnered with 55 schools and 11 school districts across eight states, helping bring food education and nourishing school meals to more than 157,000 students. From planting school gardens and leading classroom lessons to hosting cafeteria taste tests and developing new, locally sourced menu items, our members worked alongside school communities to create meaningful experiences with food, and help build healthier, more equitable school food systems. As we celebrate 15 years of FoodCorps service, we’re also looking ahead: our 2026–2027 cohort is getting ready to begin their year of service. Stay tuned as we introduce our newest class, share stories from orientation, and continue celebrating the people and partnerships helping build the school food system every child deserves.

Farm Bill update: The Senate Agriculture Committee did not advance its Farm Bill proposal last week, voting 10–11. The proposal would have left in place harmful SNAP cuts and new costs for states enacted last year, which could make it harder for children and families to access food assistance. This vote does not end the Farm Bill process. Committee leaders left the meeting open, allowing negotiations to continue after the August recess. Lawmakers now have another opportunity to develop a bipartisan Farm Bill that supports farmers and families while protecting SNAP and school meals. FoodCorps will continue following the negotiations and sharing updates as the process moves forward. 🚨A key Farm Bill decision is coming this week. On Thursday, August 6, the Senate Agriculture Committee will meet to amend and vote on Chairman John Boozman’s updated Farm Bill proposal. The revised proposal gives states additional time before they may be required to pay a portion of SNAP benefit costs. But it does not eliminate that cost shift or reverse the harmful SNAP cuts enacted last year. Those cuts affect more than food assistance at home. SNAP participation helps connect eligible children to free school meals and supports schools’ ability to offer meals to every student through the Community Eligibility Provision. Senators are making decisions now about whether and how this proposal moves forward. Your messages can reinforce that any Farm Bill must protect SNAP, direct certification, and children’s access to school meals.
