About us

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) manages the flow of electric power to 27 million Texas customers - representing about 90 percent of the state's electric load. As the independent system operator (ISO) for the region, ERCOT schedules power on an electric grid that connects more than 54,100 miles of transmission lines and 1,250+ generation units, including Private Use Networks. ERCOT also performs financial settlement for the competitive wholesale bulk-power market and administers retail switching for 8 million premises in competitive choice areas. ERCOT is a membership-based 501(c)(4) nonprofit corporation, governed by a board of directors and subject to oversight by the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature. ERCOT's members include consumers, cooperatives, generators, power marketers, retail electric providers, investor-owned electric utilities (transmission and distribution providers), and municipal-owned electric utilities.

Systemwide temperatures are forecast to gradually build throughout the week with highs in the upper 90s and 100s. A relatively dry weather pattern will continue, aside from a rain chance along the coast early in the week followed by rain chances in West Texas and the Panhandle around mid- to late-week. ERCOT expects high demand with peaks in the upper 80,000-megawatt range. Monitor current and extended grid conditions: bit.ly/4xC9yVj

ERCOT released its Monthly Outlook for Resource Adequacy (MORA) report for October 2026. This report takes into account lower air-conditioning demand as temperatures decrease, lower solar output in the early evening hours, and higher thermal generation outages expected during the fall season. bit.ly/4hOWNSs

Today, ERCOT President and CEO Pablo Vegas testified before the Texas Senate Committee on Business and Commerce on "Assessing the State of the Texas Electric Grid." He discussed how ERCOT is managing the grid amid a surge in demand from potential new customers. He highlighted ERCOT’s new Batch Study process for screening large customer connection requests and the requirements of Senate Bill 6 — a 2025 state law aimed at keeping the grid reliable as large power users join it. Upper-level high pressure will support another week of triple digit temperatures for many locations across the ERCOT Region. A drier outlook can be expected as well, with any rain chances looking minimal through the last few days of July. ERCOT is expecting moderate to high demand with peaks in the mid- to upper-80,000-megawatt range. Monitor current and extended grid conditions: bit.ly/45rTQzM
