Local or just passing through, it doesn't matter...drive drunk in Douglas County and you WILL be caught. Imagine this truck barreling toward you on the highway as you're stopped on the side of the road. That exact scenario recently happened to a DCSO Traffic Deputy on I-25 when an intoxicated driver left the roadway and was driving on the shoulder before nearly striking our deputy at full speed. The driver then swerved recklessly across three lanes of traffic and continued up the highway. Once stopped, the driver, a Wyoming resident, was found to be intoxicated with open cans of beer and a loaded pistol in the truck. Deputies arrested him on multiple charges. Thanks to our deputies' proactive work, we took another dangerous driver off the streets!

🚸 BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY ALERT 📚 As Douglas County students head back to class, DCSO Traffic Deputies will be out in force monitoring school zones and bus stops across the county. What you need to know: 🚔 Increased Patrols: Expect an extra deputy presence around local schools during morning pickup and afternoon drop-off times. ⚠️ Double Fines: Fines are doubled in active school zones, so keep an eye on your speed! A few seconds saved on your commute isn't worth risking a child's safety. 🪑 Chair size: 1/10. Readiness for New School Year: 10/10! 📚 Deputy Rodrigue spent a little time over the summer at an elementary school. But he is officially ready for kids to head back to class at Douglas County High School. We are proud to have our SROs back on campus, doing what they do best!

Honoring Loss with Action A year ago, a community member's mother was killed by a reckless driver. Recently, his quick thinking stopped an alleged drunk driver in Douglas County. This witness called 911 after spotting a car with no license plates weaving through traffic. The driver went the wrong way into a parking lot, made illegal U-turns, hopped onto the sidewalk to bypass traffic, blew through red lights, and hit speeds near 100 MPH. Thanks to the description given by the witness, DCSO deputies located the car and took the driver into custody for suspicion of driving under the influence. Driven by his own heartbreaking loss, his vigilance likely prevented another family from experiencing the same tragedy. Your calls save lives. Keep reporting dangerous driving when you see it. **All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
