Read key themes from DX Annual 2026 in our new Insights Report. In April, DXA brought together 500 senior engineering leaders to share how they’re applying and measuring AI in engineering. Our research team went back through the conversations, distilled key topics, and provided commentary in this report. We hosted the first DX Annual conference earlier this year, and seeing more than 500 engineering leaders come together in San Francisco exceeded every expectation I had. The conversations between sessions and over dinner were exactly what we hoped this event would become. We’re excited to do it again in 2027. This time, we’re hosting the conference in two cities: - San Francisco on May 6th, 2027 - London on September 23rd, 2027 We’re bringing the same format to both cities: an invite-only, single-day event that brings together leaders focused on developer productivity and AI. No vendors or pitches, only sessions where you can benchmark and learn from what your peers are doing. Register your interest & get notified when invites open here: dxannual.com

"The strongest predictor of multi-agent success is not the tool’s capability, but specification quality – meaning, how well humans set context." In our latest live research briefing, Brian Houck discussed why organizations should place a heavier emphasis on the environment around the AI agents: clear requirements, accurate data, and well-defined intent. AI is creating new bottlenecks in the SDLC. In our Q2 AI Impact Report, we see that the median weekly PR Throughput rose 37% over four quarters, but the Developer Experience Index fell from 67 to 65, driven by declines in incremental delivery, local iteration speed, and review turnaround. A single point of DXI decline equates to roughly ~10 lost hours per engineer per year, meaning some of the velocity gains are being offset by new friction elsewhere in the system. “How do we prove the ROI of our AI investments?” In this week’s Engineering Enablement newsletter, Brian Houck suggests tracking changes in innovation capacity by measuring across five dimensions: Throughput, Deployments, Innovation Ratio, Quality, and Satisfaction. Brian makes the case that AI shouldn't be judged by how much human work it appears to replace, but by whether it gives your engineering organization a greater and more sustainable capacity to deliver innovation. Friday is for sharing with peers! One of the tools in my bag that helps me be a better CTO (to my board, my peers, and my team) is DX . I can share transparency and benchmark where we are against peers without anecdote. The power of this is something I cannot work without now. “How are we doing on AI adoption?” “Whats blocking our teams from success?” “How do we compare to our peers, in our market, at our size?” I can answer with a click. The team at DX didn’t ask me to write this… they had no idea… but when something is so powerful… I felt it was only right to share with my friends here. Shout out to Ian O'Brien who first introduced me to this black magic (thanks man) and the team at DX who help me make it work, who I will tag in the comments. Data is power!
