About us
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is an independent research and development agency of the U.S. Department of War (DoW), whose mission is to create and prevent technological surprise for national security. Working with innovators inside and outside government, we have delivered on our mission many times over – transforming the seemingly impossible into world-changing defense and national security capabilities. Unlike other agencies, DARPA is not satisfied with incremental advances. We push transformational breakthroughs – innovations that not only solve current challenges but also establish the U.S. as the leading driver of strategic technological invention. We’ve created game-changing military capabilities – precision weapons, stealth technology, nerve implants that return sensation to warriors who have lost limbs, and more – that stand as a marvel to militaries around the globe. Our innovations have also transformed civilian society, leading to the internet as we know it today, automated voice recognition and language translation, GPS receivers small enough to fit in consumer devices, and early investments in mRNA vaccine technology. We do this by fueling an innovation ecosystem that engages academic, industry, and government partners. By fostering a nurturing environment, we empower diverse collaborators to succeed faster. What comes next is limited only by the imagination.

What does a performer's journey with DARPA look like? There's no single answer. For Inca Digital, it started with a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) award focused on novel ways to map and analyze the rapidly evolving digital asset ecosystem. As the company looks to build on that work, reach new stakeholders, and expand into new markets, DARPA's Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI) is helping support the next stage of its growth. EEI helps promising DARPA performers bridge the gap between promising technology and real-world adoption by providing commercialization expertise, market insight, and support identifying customers, partners, and transition pathways. In this video, Jules Hirschkorn, Inca Digital's senior vice president of operations, talks about the company's experience with DARPA and how support through SBIR and EEI is helping it move from technical innovation to real-world impact. For the DARPA Lift Challenge, the question we asked was simple: What’s your ratio? The process to answer it: DARPA HARD. This is just the beginning of the transformation in heavy vertical-lift aviation. That's why we released a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) topic so these teams can continue maturing their drone concepts. Congratulations to every team that took flight, and pushed the limits of lift. Access a recap of the competition's results: https://lnkd.in/ePW2cJmM
