In a traditional actuator, much of the bulk and many of the failure points live in the cabling and connectors between the motor, drive and encoder. Our integrated motor-drive capability lets you combine a motor and drive in a single assembly built to your specifications. Instead of a large, separate drive housing, the design integrates the drive and built-in encoder inside the motor package, reducing interconnects, cabling and connectors while shrinking the overall form factor and managing thermal load internally. If you’re building AGVs, AMRs and robotic joints, these are among the most compact high-performance servo drives on the market, sized for space-constrained applications and engineered to run efficiently. How do you protect a motor from overload without measuring its temperature? Hot-spot temperatures inside a motor vary too widely to measure reliably, so the practical answer is to track energy instead — the idea behind the "I squared T" method. Our white paper breaks it down: most of a motor's heat comes from winding losses, which depend on how much current flows and for how long. By monitoring that, a drive can protect the motor with no temperature sensor. When the overload energy exceeds the motor's rated limit, the drive automatically reduces current. Once current falls back below the continuous limit, normal operation resumes on its own, protecting the motor without nuisance trips. Since the drive already measures motor current, it also logs that data for predictive maintenance and IIoT. Packing more power into a smaller footprint usually means a thermal headache. We built the Nano High Power Series to break that trade-off, pairing best-in-class power density with thermal management so you can actually use the current on the spec sheet. Why that matters for your design: ✔️ Heat handled where space is tight: Up to 140 A in a 31.7 x 66 x 63.5-mm footprint. High power density only counts if the drive can shed the heat that comes with it, and this series is engineered to do that. ✔️ Real current in constrained enclosures: In AGVs, AMRs and robotic joints, there's no room for oversized heatsinks or extra airflow. Better thermal management means you can run closer to the drive's rating without derating around a hotspot. ✔ ️ Efficiency that works in your favor: Higher efficiency means less waste heat to begin with, easing the thermal load on the whole system. Sizing an AGV/AMR battery can look like a clean calculation — until you account for how these machines actually move. For machines at constant or smooth variable speeds, it's straightforward. But for the stop-and-go, multi-axis movements typical of AGVs and AMRs, the analytical approach becomes impractical: peak power is easy to calculate, but average power is harder, and component efficiencies are often unspecified or difficult to derive. In Part II of our battery sizing series, we make the case for an empirical method: ⚙️ Connect a bench supply at the intended voltage to the drive input ⚙️ Put current and voltage probes on the DC input ⚙️ Run a full machine cycle while a digital storage oscilloscope captures drive input power. From that measured power, the required capacity follows directly — just make sure the battery can also handle the peak power demand.
