Japan has enough cash at its disposal for a couple more rounds of yen-buying on the scale of last month’s historic intervention, according to Goldman Sachs. “They already have at their disposal enough to do another couple rounds of what we just saw,” which were near record size, Karen Fishman, a Goldman Sachs Research strategist, said on the bank’s Exchanges podcast. When Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently announced on social media that she was freezing her eggs, she called attention to the cost of the procedure. The decision had taken time, the Democratic representative for New York's 14th congressional district said in an Instagram story, "to consider, weigh and save up for." So-called elective egg freezing has become more common as women delay motherhood to focus on their education and careers, studies show. Ocasio-Cortez, who is 36, recently said on ABC's "This Week" that she hasn't ruled out a future presidential and U.S. Senate campaign. However, the expense of egg freezing — compounded by a widespread lack of insurance coverage — remains an obstacle for many women.

Smarkets, a UK-based betting exchange, is making its way into the U.S. by pursuing two separate avenues. The company, which was founded in 2008, filed for a license with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in March. The platform — which has over $60 billion in lifetime trading volume — also has pending applications to operate as a sportsbook in Illinois, Iowa and Michigan, according to Smarkets founder Jason Trost. "The reason we're doing the dual track is because the legal situation is unclear if the CFTC has federal preemption or not," Trost said. Just like prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket, sports also drives Smarkets' volume, he added.

The caverns that hold the U.S. strategic oil reserves could get damaged by the rapid release of stockpiles in response to the Iran war, experts warned this week as inventories hit a four-decade low. Damage to the caverns would make it more difficult to respond to future energy emergencies, the experts said. The oil in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is stored at 60 salt caverns thousands of feet underground at four major sites along the Gulf Coast in Lousiana and Texas. The SPR has tumbled below 300 million barrels for the first time since it was filled in the early 1980s, according to Department of Energy data released Monday. Inventories are depleting as the U.S. releases 172 million barrels in response to the supply disruption caused by Iran war. The SPR will sit at around 243 million barrels after the drawdown is finished.

Americans are keeping their cars longer than ever before, with the average U.S. vehicle age rising to 12.8 years, according to Mobility Global. But some industry analysts and forecasters worry that highly complex software-defined vehicles will age more like smartphones. These vehicles rely on sophisticated computers and software to control many functions that were once strictly mechanical or managed by simpler technology. They can also receive over-the-air software updates and are typically connected to the internet or communications networks, allowing automakers to remotely diagnose some problems, perform some fixes and add new features. "A software-defined vehicle is really a vehicle which is no longer stale in time. It's a vehicle which continues to improve over time through over-the-air updates," said Rivian Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid. "What we like to say at Rivian is that the least capable Rivian you will ever get from us is on the day of your purchase, and then
