  • This summer, the Mayor’s Office had the pleasure of welcoming two exceptional interns: Martha Oloo, a graduate from Kenya, and Otto Reitenbach, an undergraduate from St. Louis, both current students at Harvard University. Their enthusiasm and dedication brought fresh perspectives and vibrant energy to our Recovery Office and Operations Division, significantly enhancing our work in service to the City of St. Louis. We asked each intern to reflect on their experiences working with the City. "Working on a green infrastructure framework for neighborhoods impacted by last year’s tornado has been the most consequential work I’ve done outside the classroom," said Martha. "What I'll carry forward is that lasting recovery depends less on any single design and more on stewardship and collaboration." Otto also shared thoughts with a unique perspective. "I've truly enjoyed the opportunity to engage with my hometown community and to gain a deeper understanding of all that city government contributes to our daily lives," said Otto. "Seeing real change makes me proud to be a St. Louisan.” We are grateful for Martha and Otto’s outstanding contributions this summer and wish them the very best as they return to school.

  • Today, Mayor Cara Spencer presented Michelle Jones with an Excellence in Service award. Michelle, who works in the Street Department, received the award for her incredible act of bravery and compassion. Last month, while on duty, Michelle witnessed a driver place a newborn baby in the middle of the street and sped away. Without hesitation, Michelle jumped into action, blocking traffic with her truck, rushing to rescue the baby, and quickly gathering crucial details about the suspect’s vehicle for the authorities. Thanks to her quick thinking, the suspect has been arrested, and the baby is safe. Our City employees go above and beyond every day to protect and serve our community, especially its most vulnerable members. Thank you, Michelle, for being a true hero!

  • 47 years. Countless games. One incredible legacy. ⚾ Behind every great city program is a dedicated team member making it happen. For Park Supervisor II Roger Berry, his dedication to the Parks Division and the St. Louis Softball League is personal. When the private organization running the city's municipal league closed years ago, Roger stepped up to organize the St. Louis Softball League himself—ensuring St. Louisans didn't lose the chance to build community, stay active, and enjoy our public parks. "It is important to me that people can still gather in the parks and play the game. Unlike some other sports, softball requires someone to manage the details, including team registration, field permits and maintenance, and league rules." — Roger Berry, Park Supervisor II Roger’s career proves that it takes heart—miles and miles of heart—to serve a city. 👉 Read the full story to learn more about Roger’s journey and find out which major leaguer inspires him the most: https://lnkd.in/gY_z8NwH
