Happy National Nonprofit Day! At City of Hope, our work would not be possible without the vibrant community of employees, donors and volunteers who stand behind us. So, today, I dedicate my celebration to each of you. What inspires me most is our shared purpose. We come from different backgrounds and communities. We have different skills and reasons we’re here. But we are all united by a common goal to end cancer and improve lives. Over the past year, our supporters have helped create state-of-the-art facilities and healing spaces, advance lifesaving diagnostics and therapies, launch hundreds of clinical trials, expand access to care, invest in the next generation of scientists...and so much more. Nonprofits generate tremendous economic, social, cultural and public health benefits that are felt far beyond the walls of any single organization. Whether you work for one, volunteer your time, serve on a board, or support a cause through philanthropy, your work matters. Thank you for setting an incredible example of generosity and leadership in your families, companies and communities. #NationalNonprofitDay

Women Leading the Way in Cancer Care This quarter, we’re honored to welcome three remarkable City of Hope physicians to Cancer Support Community Greater San Gabriel Valley —each bringing a different perspective on what comprehensive, compassionate cancer care looks like today. From surgical oncology and mental health to breast cancer care, Dr. Alana Munger, Dr. Xiomara Rocha-Cadman, and Dr. Anna Ter-Zakarian are advancing their fields while helping redefine leadership in medicine. Read more about these inspiring women and why treating the whole person—not just the diagnosis—is essential to cancer care. 👉 https://lnkd.in/g7xnkV4U

  • Ajay Goel, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Molecular Diagnostics and Experimental Therapeutics at City of Hope led an international study published in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology that may transform how colorectal cancer is screened. The study, involving more than 1,600 participants, developed a blood-based test that detected 91% of colorectal cancers and 81% of advanced adenomas, the precancerous lesions that have historically been one of the most difficult targets for blood-based tests to detect. Dr. Goel shares more on the study and what it could mean for patients in a new City of Hope Research News feature story. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4x2J4MK

Ending cancer starts with Hope. 💙   For our patients, it means more time with loved ones, more milestones to celebrate and more hope. For our physicians, researchers and care teams, it's a reminder: when cancer shows up, we show up stronger.

  • Thanks to Brighton Collectibles, each week in August features a new matching gift opportunity for Walk for Hope that can help your supporters' donations go twice as far for life-saving cancer research at City of Hope. Eligible online credit card donations can be matched dollar for dollar to your fundraising page (up to $1,000 per participant). Matching funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, so now is a great time to start fundraising. Haven't registered yet? There's still time to join Walk for Hope, start fundraising and take advantage of these weekly matching opportunities. Need inspiration for your fundraising outreach? • City of Hope's first-of-its-kind national clinical trial model means that progress doesn't stop at one location. It opens promising therapies across our sites in Southern California, Phoenix, Chicago and Atlanta, shortening the distance between discovery and the patients who need it most. That national model helped make it possible for Rachelle Gardner to receive daraxonrasib, an investigational therapy, through an FDA-authorized Expanded Access Program. Rachelle, who has faced pancreatic cancer since 2023, is now one of the first eligible patients at City of Hope Chicago to receive it. She marked her first dose with a simple toast: "To good health and getting rid of that cancer bug!" Now she's focused on more time with her fiancé, her students and her family. Read her story in the Chicago Tribune: https://bit.ly/4hZncwS

  • Throughout multiple cancer diagnoses and years of treatment, Bunnia has faced every chapter with remarkable strength and resilience. On hard days and good days alike, the music of country legend Randy Travis has kept her spirit lifted and her heart full. A longtime and devoted fan, Bunnia had always dreamed of meeting Randy in person. With the love and determination of her family and friends, that dream became a reality when he visited her at City of Hope Chicago. Their time together was filled with warmth, connection and the kind of joy that words cannot fully capture. We are deeply grateful to Randy and his wife, Mary Travis, for helping create such a meaningful moment for a cherished member of our City of Hope community.
