Harnessing the power of the ocean to heal the climate.
About us
The ocean is an immensely powerful force of nature, and our greatest ally to reverse the tides on climate change. By studying the planet’s natural cycles, Captura designed a solution that removes CO2 from the ocean and harnesses its ability to heal the climate—a process known as Direct Ocean Capture. Developed and proven in Caltech’s laboratories, our unique Direct Ocean Capture technology runs with just two ingredients: seawater and renewable electricity. It extracts CO2 directly from seawater to be permanently stored or reused. This amplifies the natural equilibrium between the ocean and atmosphere, drawing carbon out of the air and into the ocean to rebalance. Captura’s approach requires no rare-Earth minerals, adds nothing to the ocean, and leaves no chemicals behind. It’s a low-cost, large-scale carbon removal solution that is environmentally sound.

The carbon removal industry is navigating a complex moment, and this recent feature from Carbon Pulse provides a thoughtful look at the realities facing the sector. Captura was pleased to host Allison Gacad at our 1,000 t/yr pilot facility for the first article in ‘Ocean Carbon Removal Watch’, a three-part special report on marine carbon removal supported by the Pulitzer Center. The article highlights Captura's pragmatic approach to building a resilient business. While always remaining focused on our mission of climate mitigation and ocean health, we're now also selling our core electrodialysis platform into a range of established commercial markets. This gives us a stronger business today while helping ensure our carbon removal technology is ready to scale when the market is. As Katherine Peachey, Head of Equinor Ventures, says in the article: “From our perspective, the case for carbon removal isn’t really a question. It’s needed for a credible net zero pathway. The real question is, what technologies can do it efficiently and affordably, and what companies can survive long enough to get to the time when it really scales up and the market really opens up for it?” That's exactly the kind of company we're working to build. Thank you to Allison Gacad, Carbon Pulse and the Pulitzer Center for taking the time to learn about our work and share our story. https://lnkd.in/df3raAMh #CarbonDioxideRemoval #DirectOceanCapture #OceanHealth #Electrodialysis
