  • As summer vacation starts to wind down, we continue to enjoy some of our favorite Boston Public Schools stories from the 2025-26 school year. Students from Boston International Newcomers Academy (BINcA) and TechBoston Academy were named grand prize winners of the Aspen Challenge: Boston. The Aspen Challenge: Boston engaged student teams from 15 local public high schools over 10 weeks to design solutions for pressing issues impacting their communities. At the Solution Showcase, teams of approximately presented their projects to a panel of local experts and peers. “Experiences like this help develop leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, and support our students in building the knowledge and confidence to contribute meaningfully and pursue a wide range of postsecondary opportunities,” said BPS Superintendent Mary Skipper. Thank you to all the coaches and staff that supported the students throughout the challenge and to The Aspen Institute, founded in partnership with the Bezos Family Foundation. • ¡Celebrando nuestra comunidad Dominicana! 🇩🇴 This year, Boston Public Schools proudly made our first appearance with our own BPS float at the annual Boston Dominican Parade and Festival, a joyful opportunity to celebrate Dominican culture and the many families, students, and staff who help make BPS the vibrant community it is. We’re especially grateful to the BPS staff members who brought our presence to life, particularly our Helpline and Community Engagement teams. Together, they created a space where BPS teachers, staff, students, and families of all ages could connect, celebrate, and feel represented. Our float brought plenty of smiles—and the response from the community made it clear how meaningful it is to see BPS showing up, celebrating, and standing alongside our diverse communities. Thank you to everyone who helped make this historic first a success! • As we continue to enjoy summer, we’re re-living some of our favorite Boston Public Schools stories from the 2025-26 school year. We stepped into Ms. Garay’s Charlestown High School calculus classroom, where she welcomed fellow BPS educators to observe her Wicked Math teaching strategies. In Fall 2025, the City of Boston introduced Wicked Math, an initiative that aims to increase access to advanced math for more BPS students. As part of Wicked Math, the Telescope Network provides professional-development learning sites for teachers to observe, discuss, and adopt effective classroom practices.

  • As we continue to enjoy summer, we’re re-living some of our favorite Boston Public Schools stories from the 2025-26 school year. The Shaw-Taylor Elementary School community held a celebration of its schoolwide reading competition in March. New England Patriots legend Matthew Slater and his wife, Shahrzad Slater, joined in the fun, hailing Shaw-Taylor students’ incredible dedication and recognizing the top readers. The competition strengthened literacy and sparked a lifelong love of reading among the community. • The August Leadership Institute brings together Boston Public Schools school leaders and their leadership teams for three days ahead of the 2026–27 school year. This year’s theme, “Deepening Impact, Accelerating Outcomes,” grounded leaders in BPS’ districtwide vision and priorities while creating space to: • Strengthen instructional and operational leadership • Learn with and from colleagues across BPS • Engage in differentiated learning aligned to their individual leadership goals • Deepen their work on Quality School Plans (QSPs) • Advance districtwide instructional improvement work • Prepare to support academic achievement, student success, and thriving school communities Next, our leaders are heading back to their schools to put that learning into action and get ready to welcome students for the first day of school! Here’s to a strong start to an incredible school year!

  • As we continue to enjoy summer, we’re re-living some of our favorite Boston Public Schools stories from the 2025-26 school year. Sarah Roberts and her family challenged local school-segregation laws in 1847 in court, resulting in Massachusetts banning segregated public schools eight years later. Three of Roberts’ descendants have committed to sharing that legacy by educating Sarah Roberts Elementary School students about their family’s historic resistance against racial discrimination.
