🌟 Meet Arkansas Children’s Northwest pediatric sports medicine physician Dr. Jacob Smith. 🌟 Born and raised in northeast Arkansas, Dr. Smith grew up playing baseball and continues to make the sport a big part of his life. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, spending time with family and supporting his charity that builds baseball infrastructure in Latin America. Dr. Smith chose sports medicine because he wanted to help young athletes get back to doing what they love. At Arkansas Children’s, he works with active kids and teens to treat injuries and pain, determine when it’s safe to return to play and help families understand when imaging, therapy or additional time is needed. About us
Arkansas Children's is the only health system in the state solely dedicated to caring for Arkansas' 850,000 children. The private, non-profit organization includes the Arkansas Children’s Golisano Campus in Little Rock, home to Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH), and the Arkansas Children’s Walker Campus in Springdale, home to Arkansas Children’s Northwest (ACNW). The two pediatric hospitals host 361 licensed beds, supported by a pediatric research institute and USDA nutrition center, a philanthropic foundation, a nursery alliance, statewide clinics and many education and outreach programs — all focused on fulfilling a promise to define, discover and deliver unprecedented child health. ACH is a Magnet-recognized facility operating the state’s only Level I pediatric trauma center; the state's only burn center; the state's only Level IV neonatal intensive care unit; the state's only pediatric intensive care unit; the state’s only pediatric surgery program with Level 1 verification from the American College of Surgeons (ACS); and the state's only nationally recognized pediatric transport program. Arkansas Children’s is nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report in seven pediatric subspecialties (2025-2026): Cancer, Cardiology & Heart Surgery, Nephrology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Pulmonology & Lung Surgery and Urology. ACNW, the first and only pediatric hospital in the northwest Arkansas region, is a Level IV pediatric trauma center. ACNW operates an inpatient unit that will expand in 2026; a surgical unit with five operating rooms; outpatient clinics offering over 20 subspecialties; diagnostic services; imaging capabilities; occupational therapy services; and northwest Arkansas' only pediatric emergency department. Generous philanthropic and volunteer engagement has sustained Arkansas Children's since it began as an orphanage in 1912, and today ensures the system can deliver on its promise of unprecedented child health. 🔔💙🎗️ A moment worth celebrating: After 867 days of cancer treatment, 10-year-old Manuel rang the bell at Arkansas Children’s Northwest, marking the end of his cancer treatment and the beginning of a new chapter. Manuel was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia on January 2, 2024, and started chemotherapy the very next day. His final IV chemotherapy treatment was May 19, 2026, followed by his last oral chemotherapy treatment on May 23. For 867 days, Manuel and his family faced the ups and downs of pediatric cancer together. Along the way, he also received care from general surgery, plastic surgery and wound care specialists. Through it all, his Arkansas Children’s team was there providing care, support and hope every step of the way. “Throughout everything that my son has had to endure, Arkansas Children’s has always been a safe haven for our family," said Yasmeen, Manuel’s mom. "I am beyond grateful for the support and care they have provided for my son. Thank you for giving my son a second chance at life." Congratulations, Manuel! We’re so proud of you!

👷♂️🦺 Arkansas Children’s patient Liam Solis, 8, didn’t just want to hear about what was happening behind the walls of Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH). He wanted to see it for himself. Liam got an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour this week of the construction happening at ACH, where construction workers showed him everything from the giant saws they use to how a new walking ramp will help patients like him navigate the hospital more easily. Liam was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy in September 2025 and receives care through ACH Neurology. His family makes a five-hour roundtrip from Barling every six months to see Aravindhan Veerapandiyan, M.D., affectionately known as “Dr. Panda,” an Arkansas Children’s pediatric neurologist and director of the Comprehensive Neuromuscular Program and the Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy Certified Duchenne Care Center. What’s being built inside ACH is more than new spaces and walkways. It’s a hospital designed with kids like Liam and their families in mind.

⛳✨ From the fairways to the ballroom floor, our community showed up big for kids in northwest Arkansas! Will Golf 4 Kids and Gala of Hope together raised more than $3.2 million to fuel the exciting expansion happening at Arkansas Children’s Northwest. Golfers teed off at Dogwood and Kingswood Golf Courses, while guests filled the Fayetteville Public Library for a night to remember. Together, these two events marked an incredible fundraising success, and a powerful investment in the future of pediatric care across northwest Arkansas and the region. This support will help expand access to expert pediatric care, improve health outcomes and elevate the patient experience for kids and families. Gala of Hope Chairs Dalilah and Ben Blakeman brought energy and heart to this year's gala, while Will Golf 4 Kids honorary chairs, Walmart's Brad Bedwell, Will McDonald, Brian Salmon and Katie Smith, helped rally the golfers. Thank you to our generous sponsors, led by founding sponsor Willard & Pat Walker Charitable Foundation, for helping make it all possible. 💙 #ArkansasChildrens #ChildrensHealth #Arkansas #ACNW #Springdale #NWA #KidsHealth #ChildHealth #Pediatrics #Healthcare #Hospital #ChildrensHospital #ChampionsForChildren

☀️💙 Our team members had an incredible time volunteering at Camp Aldersgate earlier this summer for Diabetes Camp, where kids living with type 1 diabetes spent the week making memories, building confidence and having fun alongside others who truly understand their journey. From zip-lining and swimming to fishing, archery and more, Diabetes Camp gives campers ages 7–14 the chance to enjoy all the fun of summer camp while learning valuable skills to help them manage their diabetes with confidence and independence. Thank you to our physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, psychologists, social workers and other dedicated team members who volunteer their time to make this life-changing experience possible for campers! 🏕️ #ArkansasChildrens #Type1Diabetes #T1D #Diabetes #ChildrensHealth #SummerCamp #ArkansasChildrens #ChildrensHealth #Arkansas #ACH #LittleRock #KidsHealth #ChildHealth #Pediatrics #Healthcare #Hospital #ChildrensHospital #ChampionsForChildren
