Chess, anyone? This year at NeurIPS I am thrilled to announce a hands-on workshop about playing chess on AWS Trainium! I'll be onsite in the 2000-person ballroom on Tuesday Dec 2, with an amazing team. Chess is a great learning environment for many aspects in machine learning. The game itself is well handled by CPU-based gaming engines, but the ability of LLMs to understand these discrete rules and common strategies is vastly under-explored. In addition, there's a natural pair with both reasoning and chat. Imagine training your own small language model to not just play chess, but also explain it's moves to you and have a dialogue with you about this. This gives you the ideal environment to grow your skills, both as a data scientist and as a chess enthusiast. Not to mention have a blast 🎸 We're bringing all of this to you and more at NeurIPS, and I couldn't be happier to team up with Rocky Yu at AGI House, Sharada Prasanna Mohanty at AI Crowd, Henry Yin, and the stellar builders at AWS with Jim Burtoft Niithiyn Vijeaswaran Megan McKenzie Josh Longenecker Ruchi Bhatia Armin A. and so many more. Space is limited - but if you're already attending NeurIPS you can jump into registration now while it's still open. https://lnkd.in/exVc8Qim Attending re:Invent and want to try it out? Don't worry, we'll have some options for you in December. Stay tuned ♟️.

Most people never think about what powers the AI models they use every day. But the infrastructure matters. Our AWS Trainium chips, designed in-house for AI workloads, now power more than 50% of Amazon Bedrock token usage. In practice, that means most of the generative AI responses you see from models on Bedrock are running on Trainium. That's a big deal for customers: faster results, lower costs, and more efficient scaling as demands grows. This is how we turn innovation under the hood into real-world value for builders everywhere. Take a look at what makes Trainium different and the solutions it enables. https://lnkd.in/gCa5rwAn

Another week, another hackathon win. This week, we won 3rd place at Amazon Small Language Model Hackathon at AGI House with Babel Reader, an open source replacement for ElevenReader. How did we win three hackathons in a row? Here’s our playbook: 1. Signal progress by building an actually good product. The spirit of hackathon is speed, and good product built on site is always a winning combination. 2. Make it fun. Most pitches are very boring. Any theatrics or landed jokes significantly increase the chance to stand out. 3. Leave impression with judges in advance. Most judges do not know any team, simply getting connected before is already powerful, establishing good rapport is even better. 4. Don’t go first. People are still settling in. It is hard to be the ice breaker. We trained a Qwen 3 1.7B LoRA for translation, thank to the generous help from AWS Trainium team Jim Burtoft Emily Webber. This time we had a team of 5: Owen Liu: It's fun to win 3 in a roll with you, brother. Let's win more battles in life together. Aadil Sengupta: What a delight to finally joined force after competing against each other. Great to see you train your first LLM. One small step for men, one giant leap for Hindi-English on device translation. Nitish Chowdary: Thank you for remotely making everything so beautifully designed. Ansh Shah: Other than naming the project and crafting pitches, you attemped the download modules with such intensity. Great to have you on the team. Last but not the least, thank you Rocky Yu, Henry Yin, and Alexa Orent for hosting the event, and Igor Rocha for judging and the sick DJ work. It was such a blast.
