About us
The American Mathematical Society is dedicated to advancing research and connecting the diverse global mathematical community through our publications, meetings and conferences, MathSciNet, professional services, advocacy, and awareness programs. The Society has nearly 30,000 individual members and 570 institutional members in the United States and around the world. Programs and services for AMS members and the mathematical community include professional programs such as meetings and conferences, surveys, employment services; publications including Mathematical Reviews (a database of over 3.3 million items covering 78 years of mathematics literature), journals, and over 3,000 books in print; support for Young Scholars Programs and the Mathematical Moments program of the Public Awareness Office; resources such as MR Lookup for researchers and authors; and a Washington office that connects the mathematical community with the broader scientific community and with decision makers who determine science funding. The AMS headquarters is located in Providence, Rhode Island, and the Society has offices also in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Washington D.C. See the AMS Group on LinkedIn to follow and contribute to Discussions, at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?mostPopular=&gid=158723.

Transient, Steady-State, and Ruin Probabilities of Markov and Gambling Models Edited by: Alan Krinik, Randall J. Swift, and Jennifer M. Switkes Part of the Contemporary Mathematics Series, this volume consists of fifteen articles mainly based upon presentations given at AMS Special Sessions at the Joint Mathematics Meetings. Topic include: the advantage of serving first in a pickleball match, variance calculations in Texas hold’em and video poker, a mathematical introduction to data modeling and decision making, transient symmetry analysis of absorbed random walks on integer lattices, and finding explicit probabilities within various Markov models. Authors include William A. Massey, Stewart N. Ethier, and Sheldon M. Ross. For graduate students and research mathematicians interested in various aspects of Markov models. Algebraic and Topological Interplay of Algebraic Varieties: A Conference in Honor of E. Artal’s 60th and A. Melle’s 55th Birthdays Edited by José Ignacio Cogolludo-Augustín and Eriko Hironaka Part of the Contemporary Mathematics Series, this volume collects the research of world-renowned specialists, young researchers, and graduate students interested in singularity theory from the point of view of its multiple connections with the fields of topology, algebra, geometry, and number theory. Specific topics include braid groups and braid monodromy, combinatorics and topology of hyperplane arrangements, embedded curves and surfaces, moduli space theory, Hodge index theory, and the study of arithmetic, topological, and algebraic invariants. For graduate students and research mathematicians interested in singularity theory.
