    The question that gets a robot out of the lab isn't "what can it do?" It's "what problem on the floor does it solve?" Our CEO, Peggy Johnson, made that case with The Wall Street Journal's CEO Brief this week. Building impressive technology, she says, is only the first step. The harder discipline is starting with the problem—the unfilled shift, the physically punishing task, the workflow nobody can staff—and working backward to the technology, instead of falling in love with the technology and hoping it finds a home. That's the discipline behind how we build Digit. Not "here's a capable robot, go find a use for it," but "here's a real problem, and here's the robot shaped to solve it"—down to the IT systems it plugs into, the warehouse-management software it talks to, and the safety requirements of the facility it works in.   • Safety is where the real work happens in humanoid robotics. You can't build a robot to do impressive things in a lab and then decide to make it safe around people. As our CEO Peggy Johnson put it in TechCrunch: "That's a redesign. You have to have all of the safety certified — the electrical system, all of the parts, and the software to support all of that." Meeting industrial safety certification to operate inside real customer facilities is a different bar than a choreographed demo. It's the bar that separates a video from a deployment.   • AI can make a robot smarter, but it can’t change the physics of the robot it’s running on. That’s the argument our co-founder and Chief Robot Officer Jonathan Hurst makes in a new paper published today in Science Magazine: “Physical AI is enabled by mechanical hardware.” As some predict that humanoid hardware will become a commodity and software will do the differentiating, Jonathan pushes back. “AI is just software trapped behind the physics of the hardware it is running on.” For robots to move, manipulate objects, and interact safely with people, intelligence still has to work through the physical dynamics of the machine itself. As Teleoperations Architect, you'll design the production software foundation for low-latency human demonstration data collection — the infrastructure that directly enables us to scale our deployed humanoid fleet and expand what Digit can do on the floor.     Tuesday's decision by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to address the growing national and economic security risks posed by foreign-made advanced robotic devices, including humanoids, marks an important step toward addressing those concerns before they become deeply embedded across an entire industry, much like what happened in the drone market. By adding this new category to the FCC's Covered List, the Commission has taken an important step in that direction. This decision rewards companies that have invested in building trusted domestic supply chains from the ground up and ensures that humanoid robots like Digit, which is engineered and assembled here in the US, can be deployed safely, securely, and at scale. At the same time, Agility's academic roots and continued commitment to innovation give us a deep appreciation for maintaining access to all of the tools and technologies that advance robotics research. Both of these goals can be accomplished, and we will continue to advocate for policies that simultaneously protect US security and privacy and enable continued US technology leadership. At Agility, we have spent years moving beyond the lab into real-world commercial deployments, partnering with customers to understand and meet their security requirements and operational expectations. As the commercial market continues to mature, we look forward to contributing to the growing policy discussion in Washington and helping shape a framework that strengthens American leadership while fostering continued innovation.
