In the event of power loss, your door handle still needs to work. That’s the focus of China’s new door handle requirements. In other words, in instances of system failure or emergency conditions, you must have a mechanical backup. Drivers need to be able to get in and out of their vehicles safely. Getting there means understanding how your electronic and mechanical systems interact, what the safety requirements are, and what packaging constraints you’re working within. ADAC is here to help. January 2027. That's when new handle requirements mandating safe exits without power in China take effect. And adoption is only going to become more widespread from there. Euro NCAP has been released. NHTSA is expected to move in North America this year. The window to get ahead of this is open, but it won't stay that way. Now is the time to get the ball rolling. The spec is deceptively simple: make sure people can get out of their vehicles, and first responders can get in, even in the event of power loss. The engineering is a different story.
