Yesterday, President Trump signed an executive order calling for changes to the childhood vaccine schedule, among them separating the MMR vaccine into individual vaccines. These changes go against decades of evidence and science and could lead to a reduction in vaccination rates that would put children at risk. ACOG President Camille A. Clare, MD, MPH, CPE, FACOG, outlines these concerns in her response to the executive order. We urge the administration to rescind this executive order and ensure that childhood vaccine recommendations remain grounded in rigorous scientific evidence and clinical expertise. While screening is a critical step in early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, the process can sometimes confuse or worry patients. Kimberly S. Gecsi, MD, FACOG, coauthor of ACOG’s recent cervical cancer screening guidance, was recently featured alongside other experts in the New York Times offering clarity around screening recommendations and emphasizing that cervical cancer screening saves lives. The article also listed some ways the screening process is becoming more accessible for patients who may face barriers to clinician access or experience fear or discomfort. Prenatal genetic diagnostic testing—along with prenatal genetic screening—is a game changing tool for both ob-gyns and pregnant patients. By enabling ob-gyns to determine whether a fetus has certain genetic disorders, prenatal genetic testing allows pregnant patients and families to get the information they need to make decisions and family plan during and after pregnancy.
