Tomorrow marks the start of London Climate Action Week (LCAW), taking place from 20–28 June in London, UK. Now in its eighth year, LCAW is one of the world’s largest independent climate events, bringing together more than 75,000 participants across 750+ events to advance climate solutions, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate action between annual United Nations Climate Conferences. From youth-led summits and community initiatives to global forums on climate finance and energy transition, LCAW demonstrates how cities, institutions, businesses, policymakers, and civil society can work together to address one of the defining challenges of our time. As universities and students continue to drive research, innovation, and climate leadership, what role do you think higher education should play in advancing climate action? Share your thoughts in the comments below. 🌍 💬 🔗 Interested in receiving regular updates about LCAW 2026? On the International Day for Countering Hate Speech, we recognize the important role universities and academic institutions play in building more inclusive and respectful communities. Through education, research, dialogue, and community engagement, academic institutions help students develop critical thinking skills, media and information literacy, and a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives. These tools are essential for identifying and challenging hate speech in all its forms. As the United Nations advances the #NoToHate campaign, members of UN Academic Impact continue to contribute to efforts that promote informed dialogue, strengthen information integrity, and foster communities where everyone can feel respected and heard. Together, we can push back against prejudice and help create a culture of respect—both online and offline. From Bangladesh to Kosovo, Syria to Sudan, Kelly T. Clements has spent more than 30 years helping to save lives during some of the biggest refugee and humanitarian crises in recent times. Now the outgoing Deputy High Commissioner at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, she is making an impassioned case for a more humane world. “How can we convince those that continue to wage wars, that continue to treat people badly? How can we show what's possible with a little hope, compassion, and more peace? The force of good is much stronger than the force of evil.” In this episode, Kelly Clements sits down with USG for Global Communications Melissa Fleming and reflects on her deep frustration at the devastating cuts to life-saving UN services, on the lasting power of helping just one person, and shares how the love of her family always gives her strength to serve. 🔗 Listen to Season 13 Episode 1 now: https://lnkd.in/gJZ-B6Yn. 📹 / UN DGC / https://lnkd.in/geeuqpGf.

The rules-based world order has been pronounced dead, with international collaboration abandoned by some nations as barriers to trade, movement and knowledge exchange. In this context, what are committed multilateralist institutions like the United Nations and many universities around the world to do? How do we communicate and engage in a world where the message of develop collective answers to shared challenges has been drowned out by the neo-populist realpolitik? Join UN Under-Secretary General for Global Communications, Melissa Fleming for a very special keynote address. Melissa will give a first-hand account of leading communications for the United Nations over this period - as well as her reflections on what universities seeking to engage, communicate and influence the public can learn from her experience. ___________________________________ #HigherEducation #UniversityLeadership #TheVenn #HigherEducationLeadership

"Peace is not just made at conference tables, but in classrooms, neighborhoods, and everywhere people meet with open minds and open hearts." As we begin the 100-day countdown to the International Day of Peace, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres reminds us that each day presents an opportunity to build a more just, peaceful, and inclusive world. At UN Academic Impact, we remain committed to our guiding principles, including Peace and Conflict Resolution. The maintenance of global peace and security is a cross-cutting issue critical to achieving all the Sustainable Development Goals. The Secretary-General's message recognizes the everyday architects of peace, from volunteers and campaigners to civil society leaders, whose actions strengthen communities and inspire meaningful change. Universities are an important part of that effort, fostering dialogue, understanding, and the next generation of global citizens. 🔗 Read the Secretary-General's full statement: https://lnkd.in/gssQ6-XS. 🔗 Visit the website: https://lnkd.in/d37trb3.

Thursday was an important day for the human rights movement. Yesterday, in Geneva, we launched the Global Alliance for Human Rights which comes at a time when the values and principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are being tested in many parts of the world. Yet it is also a moment of tremendous opportunity — to bring together people and institutions across sectors, generations and regions to reaffirm our shared commitment to human dignity, equality and justice. Yesterday’s launch is a call to place human rights back at the centre of decision-making, leadership and everyday's action. It was an honor to join United Nations Human Rights Chief Volker Türk and moderate this important event. My team and I in the Department of Global Communications are proud to stand behind this timely initiative. Human rights belong to everyone and can be advanced by everyone. https://lnkd.in/dZhqDz2x

Ten years after the world said goodbye to Muhammad Ali, a watercolor painting he made himself of United Nations Headquarters symbolizes his lasting legacy and vision for peace. Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed reflects on the painting and a letter he gave the UN with it, stating his conviction that “Service to others is the rent we pay for our room here on Earth.” Here at UN Academic Impact, Ali’s words remind us of what we must do amid today’s conflict and division—use education as a force for understanding, empower students to lead with compassion and purpose, and strengthen the partnerships that advance peace, dignity, and sustainable development for all.
