AI is getting more capable and harder to measure. Benchmarks test contrived tasks. Test sets leak. Leaderboards get optimized against. Labs grade their own exams. As models, harnesses, and applications multiply, one question becomes increasingly important: what can these systems actually do? Vals AI is building the trusted answer. Vals builds benchmarks the way work is actually done: evaluations authored alongside practitioners on real professional tasks, with private test sets that can’t leak into training data. What started as an academic exercise is quickly evolving into critical infrastructure for AI adoption. We led Vals’ seed, and are proud to continue partnering with Rayan K. Krishnan, Langston Nashold, and the team as Andreessen Horowitz leads their Series A. To go deeper, 8VC’s Vivek Gopalan sat down with Rayan to discuss the evolution of benchmarks, measuring increasingly agentic systems, the weird and wonderful ways we test intelligence, the global AI race, and why evals sit on the critical path to ASI. Sales teams were promised that recording every call would change everything. Intelligent insights. Better coaching. More closed deals. Instead, they got: - Seats no one logged into. - Call recordings no one watched. - Insights that needed a whole enablement team just to act on. The recordings were never the problem. The problem is that digesting them requires work. All that intelligence requires a human to go find it, interpret it, and act on it. Most sales people are just too busy. So we asked a different question at Aida: what if you didn’t need to wait for revenue intelligence? Today, we're launching the solution. A digital twin for every AE. Your digital twin is a live companion, working 24/7 alongside each rep. With them in every deal, every day. Trained on their deals and their voice. It surfaces actionable information live that can change the outcome of a deal. It’s not a dashboard gathering dust. And the numbers even shocked us: - A twin with every AE delivers 3x the output of a single rep. - 2x your conversion on existing pipeline, and growth stops being linear. And because Aida drives 80%+ usage (not the usual 20%), the signal from prospects finally becomes clear. You learn what the market actually wants, how to target customers, and what it takes to win. Forecasting stops being guesswork. See what your reps could do with a twin today: getaida.com

Nick Perry, Doug Proctor, and the intrepid Candid Health team are tackling one of the most glaring inefficiencies in healthcare and bringing a new standard of financial infrastructure to the industry. We're proud to have backed them since their seed, and to renew our support today.
Big news! Candid Health has raised $120 million in Series D funding, led by Sixth Street, along with Oak HC/FT, 8VC and Y Combinator. We’ve 3x’d our valuation in just over a year and a half. That only happens when a company seeks to tackle a huge problem, and does it right. Every year, the U.S. healthcare system spends more than $280 billion on medical billing. Legacy systems can't keep up. Surprise: layering AI on top of broken infrastructure doesn't fix the problem. Providers need a new answer to keep up with today’s unprecedented scale and complexity. Candid’s platform can replace or sit on top of existing RCM software, and enables billing teams to automate their manual work by orchestrating AI, machine learning, and other automation on a unified data layer. Seven years into the journey, 200+ of the country's leading healthcare providers run their revenue cycle on Candid. This funding accelerates Candid’s mission to automate the financial infrastructure of American healthcare. Read more in Fortune: https://lnkd.in/g8rxvzye

Introducing Aidan, your newest AI employee We’ve raised $45M from Sequoia Capital and 8VC to bring the first computer-using AI built for realtime conversation to the world. AI won’t remain trapped in a textbox. Bringing the most powerful technology to the rooms where people actually work requires an interactive, visual medium that shows people what products can do for them. This is why we’re building Aidan. Since January, Aidan has been helping the world’s fastest-growing companies, including Notion and Decagon, and large public enterprises run customer calls at scale. Aidan is like a human expert, but with infinite capacity. He is a full-service employee: marketing, sales, and deployment teams use Aidan to lead qualification, demos, onboarding, and implementations. This is powered by the advancements we’ve made in realtime computer-use and AI’s ability to see your screen live without waiting for user input. Leon Chen, Linda He, Itamar Rocha Filho and I are building Sable, a small team of engineers and AI researchers in SF. To learn more about what Aidan can do, visit our website. We’re just getting started.

We're excited to announce that 8VC led Sable’s $45M raise alongside Sequoia Capital. Explaining what your product or service does is one of the few parts of business that never got cheaper. Marketing creates the assets. Sales tells the story. Experts answer the hard questions. The highest-value interactions have always depended on people. The gap between what a product can do and what customers understand has quietly become one of the biggest constraints on growth. That wasn't a limitation of the work. It was a limitation of the tools. Sable changes the available toolkit. Their AI employee, Aidan, can see your screen, click through a live product, and explain it in real time. Not a recording of the expert—the expert, at the marginal cost of software. As AI gains vision, computer use, and real-time voice, expert guidance no longer has to be limited to a company's largest customers or highest-value interactions. Companies can deliver live, personalized expertise at a scale that wasn't previously possible. That's why Sable is already in production with category-defining AI companies like Notion and Decagon, as well as large public companies, with more than 150 customers on the waitlist ahead of public launch. As models improve, new possibilities open faster than any roadmap can absorb. We're proud to partner with Nim Ravid, Linda He, Leon Chen, Itamar Rocha Filho, and the entire Sable team as they build the future of customer interaction. 8VC's Alex Kolicich does not think AI is a bubble. Read the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/etFJSEmH He thinks it is underhyped. As a founding partner and CIO at 8VC, Kolicich is watching venture capital split into two very different worlds. On one side: massive multi-strategy platforms. On the other: smaller, craft-oriented firms focused on hands-on company building. 8VC is choosing the craft model. The firm invests across frontier technology, but it also builds companies from within. Around 30% of its capital goes toward incubating companies internally when the team sees opportunities that do not yet exist in the market. For Kolicich, the biggest AI bottleneck is no longer the technology itself. It is distribution. That belief is shaping how 8VC evaluates founders, markets, and the future of software. The firm believes software is moving beyond traditional SaaS and shifting from systems of record to systems that actually do the work. As Kolicich puts it: “The business logic lives in the LLM. Humans become supervisors of agents.” In a market increasingly dominated by mega funds, 8VC is betting that the next generation of venture will still be won through judgment, conviction, and company-building craft.

@Bobyard's march to unleash productivity across the building trades continues with today's launch of Bobyard for Finishes Trades!
Until today, estimators in the finishes trades were tracing the outline of a wall on a PDF. Then a window. Then another wall. Then backing out a door. And they did that across thousands of clicks for another several hundred features. It sucked for everybody, so our team hustled to launch Bobyard for Finishes Trades. Bobyard reads the architectural drawings across floor plans, finish schedules, door and window schedules, reflected ceiling plans, then surfaces quantities in one go and exports it to an estimate table. But hold on, didn’t we just launch electrical? Yep. Now finishes. Plumbing and mechanical/HVAC are next. And we’re talking weeks, not quarters. Why? Because with each new trade that we train our models on, it's that much less of a lift for the next trade. Plus, the trades deserved this yesterday, so we’re not making them wait any longer. https://lnkd.in/geddBwu5

We're proud to announce our investment in Generalist and their $400M round. Robotics is approaching the same inflection that large language models brought to software: the shift from narrow specialists to general-purpose foundation models that improve across every task at once. The crux of that shift is dexterity. It's the hardest unsolved problem in robotics, and the clearest path to everything that follows. Cracking it takes a rare combination of research depth and commercial focus, the kind that almost never coexists in one team. Generalist has both: a founding team among the most-published researchers in the field, relentlessly focused on what actually ships and compounds. We've followed their progress across successive generations of models, and the signal has been unmistakable: rapid adaptation to new robots and tasks, strong sample efficiency, and real commercial traction. Proud to be on the journey with Pete Florence, Andy Zeng, and the team. Today we’re launching Bobyard for electrical. It's our first trade beyond landscaping, and the first of many more trades to come. If you’ve followed me for a while, you know that my philosophy is to tackle problems that don’t have an easy solution, which is why we set our sights on electrical after landscaping. Electrical estimating is some of the most manual work in all of construction, tracing wire runs, counting fixtures, and flipping between sheets to cross-reference a single circuit. So, we built AI that reads electrical drawings the way an estimator does, but all at the same time, and in minutes. We’re stoked for electrical contractors to try it out and what it means to offer Bobyard to more trades. This launch is huge because it’s the next step to build custom AI models and products for every trade in construction, trained on the drawings each trade actually works with. And electrical is proof that our approach translates across them.
