Born in Barcelona, Ignasi Calvet Esteban started out working at the international marketing department of the publishing house Bruguera. He took lessons in drawing in his spare time. He eventually joined the art department of Bruguera, where he began his artistic career. Esteban worked at a bank from 1973 to 1978, and took on art assignments in his spare time. He drew 'Felix the Cat' ('Kater Felix') stories for the German publisher Bastei (based on the character created by Otto Messmer and Pat Sullivan, as well as war stories for the British publisher Fleetway. He also made espionage stories for the Spanish market, and stories with Hanna-Barbera characters.

In the late 1970s, Esteban illustrated stories with Rolf Kauka's 'Fix und Foxi'. Esteban got his first assignment from the Danish Disney publisher Egmont in 1980, and has worked for this publisher, through the Tello studios, as an illustrator of Disney comics since. He started out by illustrating a great many 'Beagle Boys' stories, then did a lot of 'Mickey Mouse' and 'Donald Duck' adventures and is the leading artist of the 'Young Donald' comic since 1999.
