Jenna Fischer thinks The Office has always been a hit — with or without Steve Carell.

During a Wednesday appearance on Fly on the Wall, Fischer shared her “biggest takeaway” after doing a full rewatch of the beloved mockumentary sitcom on her Office Ladies podcast. Despite a “belief” that the show was “just treading water” after Carell left the series in 2011, Fischer thinks the show was “really good” during its full nine-season tenure.

“It’s really good the whole time,” she said, adding that there was “this belief that the two seasons after Steve left, we were just treading water and maybe they weren’t as good.”

Fischer, too, pointed out that there was “this lore, especially among the cast and the creatives, that maybe we hit our peak in season three or season four” long before Carell exited the series.

The four actors will star as a group of billionaire friends who get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis, per the official logline.

The film, the title of which is currently remaining under wraps, marks Armstrong’s feature debut, as well as his first project since HBO’s “Succession,” which wrapped up its fourth and final season in May 2023. Armstrong will write, direct and executive produce the new film.

The movie is set to begin production this month in Park City, Utah, and will debut on HBO later this spring.

The untitled, half-hour series has been given a 10 episode order. The official logline states that the show is “set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.”

“HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV,” Lawrence said. “Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now.”

Lawrence and Tarses wrote the first episode of the series. Both serve as executive producers, with Carell also executive producing in addition to starring. On Wednesday, Peacock announced a series order for a new comedy series set in the world of “The Office” from Greg Daniels, who created the original American version of the beloved mockumentary, and Michael Koman, co-creator of “Nathan for You.”

Here’s the official logline: “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”
