Buckie Thistle’s financial horror story lends support from their most famous supporter as American author Stephen King donates to Victoria park fundraising effort
Buckie Thistle’s financial ‘Misery’ has triggered help from their most famous fan, hoping to ‘Carrie’ them to happier days.
Perhaps the greatest horror author of them all, American legend Stephen King has rekindled his unlikely devotion for the Highland League club.
The man dubbed ‘King of Horror’ after penning masterpieces such as ‘It’, ‘Carrie’, ‘Pet Sematary’ and ‘The Green Mile’ which became Hollywood movies, first became associated with Buckie when he mentioned them in one of his books.
Jags sent him some club memorabilia, and he donated two signed copies of his book ‘If It Bleeds’ which includes the line “the Scottish kids root for the Pittsburgh Pirates, our kids for the Buckie Thistle Football Club”.
Now the Victoria Park club has revealed that King has made an undisclosed donation to their efforts to save the club.
Thistle recently revealed their financial plight, reporting £20,000 losses every month and stating they need to raise up to £250,000 in order to survive.
Their celebrity supporter quickly learned about the club’s difficulties, and has pledged his support.
“Buckie Thistle Football Club are very thankful to our biggest American Jags fan Stephen King for his support,” said a Facebook post from the club.
“Stephen was quick to offer help when he learned of the financial difficulties the club are currently facing.
“This is the second time Stephen has kindly donated to our club, firstly sending us two of his signed novels ‘If It Bleeds’, one of which was auctioned and the other will remain at the club.”
Who knows, maybe the 79-year-old will one day visit the Banffshire coast and cheer on the club he has formed a unique bond with.
