Coke ovens, Aspen Colliery

The beehive coking ovens on the site of Aspen Colliery are said to be the best preserved examples in NW England. There are 24 ovens and a canal basin, which was linked to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.
Known locally as the Fairy Caves.
