Ellesmere College raven
Ellesmere College raven
Ellesmere College was founded in 1884 as a Catholic boarding school. Its founder Canon Nathaniel Woodard dedicated the school to St Oswald, whose legend tells of him serenading a heathen princess by sending a ring to her in a raven's beak. The bird appears on the college crest.
