This Land Rover 101 Forward Control (101FC) light utility vehicle was on display at the annual Glintonfest village fete in Glinton in June 2024. The fete was scheduled to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944.
A total of 2,669 Land Rover 101s, which were named after their 101-inch wheelbase, were built primarily for the British Army between 1972 and 1978, with a small number being supplied to the Australian armed forces. The vehicles were powered by a Rover 3.5-litre V8 petrol engine. They were designed to haul a L118 105-millimetre light gun plus a ton of ammunition. The 101s were decommissioned by the British Army in the late 1990s with many examples being purchased by private collectors.
According to the owner's information, this particular 101 was built in January 1975 and was decommissioned in March 1997.
