NZ0633 : Pine trees on the moor

taken 4 years ago, near to Redford, County Durham, England

Pine trees on the moor
Pine trees on the moor
An isolated and unfenced group high on the moor (only 30m below the high point, and barely sheltered from the prevailing SW wind by a slight rise of ground in that direction). One might think that such a group would be particularly vulnerable to storm damage, but, having grown up exposed to storms, these trees are particularly stable and practised at resistance, unlike many in crowded plantations. Nonetheless, one tree seems to have had a single branch ripped off, most likely in Storm Arwen last November, when the wind was from the north, an unusual direction for such a strong gale.
