NM7782 : River Ailort

River Ailort
River Ailort
Apart from a nasty weir at the end (portage left or simply get out there) this is the last rapid of note on the River Ailort. There's a big chute just upstream (cut off on this photo as there was a big water drop on the lens - sorry) which drops one into bouncy water. Not usually quite this bouncy - the level was high owing to enough rain two days previously to close the Fort William main road for over a day, and the Ailort is lake-fed from Loch Eilt, and holds its level well.
