Ferry Point, South Hayling
The white concrete structure out in the middle of Langstone Harbour is an old Concrete Mulberry Caisson. These were constructed here and towed across the English Channel to the assault beaches of France, and sunk together to form temporary breakwaters to assist the allied forces in unloading their trucks, tanks and weaponry on what has become known as "D Day" 6th of June 1944. The start of the WW2 liberation of Europe.
But this one was found to be faulty and was not used. It remains to this day, sitting on a sandbank.
