The Cross Keys (b), 1 Market Square, Witney, Oxon
The new sign for the pub which is fairly basic compared to the one in use five years ago. See:- SP3509 : The Cross Keys (2) - sign, 1 Market Square, Witney, Oxon. Earlier still the pub used to have a sign showing St. Peter with crossed keys. It has also been suggested that this pub may be on the site of a former prison and that the name derives from the prison keys. That seems to me to rather unlikely but it's a very old pub, dating from the 17th century with later alterations, so no-one knows for sure.
