SO3288 : Pre-Worboys narrow road warning sign

taken 12 years ago, near to Bishop's Castle, Shropshire, England

Pre-Worboys narrow road warning sign
Pre-Worboys narrow road warning sign
A surviving pre-1965 road sign. The dots in the two lines are small reflectors designed to make the sign easier to read at night. Nowadays warning symbols are drawn inside red triangles on signs. This sign would originally have had a red triangle above the symbol.
Pre-Worboys road signs

These are known as pre-Worboys signs because in 1965 new signs were introduced acting on the recommendations of the Worboys Committee which had been tasked with reviewing the UK's road signage. The new designs have mostly remained in current use with only minor changes.
