As a child in late 1960's into 1970's (4 - 14 yrs) I used to live in the Manor House opposite this track and it was commonly known as The Cinder Track, because that was what it was made of. The footpath part of the track - which turns off to the left just up the hill - was still'cinder when I lived there. It is a farm track that leads to the fields belonging to Manor Farm, and a barrier was placed across to indicate walkers / riders should turn left rather than proceed onto private property. After the barrier the track was tarmac's. Because my father was a farm manager at that time, I had the fortunate advantage of being able to use the whole farm as my playground, whether walking, biking or on our pony!
Also the vicar at that time, Cyril Webb, used our driveway up past our house as a short cut to the church, as that was the most direct route.
I loved my years there and still consider it my true home!
