I would have thought this would be open today with a large music event. Sadly not. However the state and lack of openings will be a thing of the past, work should begin soon to restore the engine. �500,000 is being spent.

The Pumping House at Elsecar Heritage Centre, is believed to be the only Newcomen beam engine still in its original location.

The finest house in Elsecar dates from the 1850's, although the classical facade would suggest an earlier date. The building does not appear on the OS map of 1856, but in 1892 appears to have been the police station. Now divided into apartments.
