An 8F 2-8-0, number unrecorded, starts the long slog up the bank. Often heavy trains were banked up the hill, but I don't recall this one was.

Less than 20 years old in 1977, but technically obsolescent even when built in 1959/60, East Junctions signalbox was a magical place to visit. It died along with the rebuild of Manchester's Victoria station in 1992/93.
