Film Forres Film Club is set to launch next month, aiming to screen one of its independent, art house, experimental, avant-garde and underground motion pictures-a-month at the Tolbooth to group members.

Eden Court programmer Millie Reid and Film Forres chairman Bob Kenny are inviting anyone interested to the Tolbooth on Wednesday, November 11 at 7pm to discuss how the new society will operate.

Burghead quine Millie said: “We want to provide a space where film fans can gather and share the communion experience of watching and discussing films together: as they were intended to be experienced.

“The initial meeting is a way for folk to get involved, share ideas about how it should operate and what they want to gain by being a part of it.

“We are open to suggestions and look forward to welcoming everyone to this exciting new venture.”

Bob envisioned a film club just after the pandemic when he received a donation of over 900 specialist DVDs. Passionate about her work in community cinema, Millie helped him develop the idea over the past year.

“I was asked to lead the project due to my speciality in independent and non-mainstream cinema,” she said. “I want to share the power of the cinematic experience, especially by giving people access who otherwise may not be able to.”

Having previously worked in film analysis and filmmaking, Millie found cinema work and film curation the areas she was most skilled in.

She has since worked in the sector across the country, and has been a freelance programmer and projectionist at Eden Court for over a year, curating specialist film seasons.

She has also been vice chairman with Film Forres for nearly two years.

“I’ve added my 700-disc physical media collection to the club library,” she said. “It’s full of rare and out-of-print titles.

“We are focusing on screening rare, independent and non-mainstream cinema that may be hard to access elsewhere. If you are interested in joining a community of passionate film fans, please email milliereid2006@gmail.com to confirm a place.”
